Did a quick search, and was surprised this hasn't been at least brought up. Pat McAfee is retiring from football at 29 to become a sports blogger for Barstool Sports.

I watched it happen live last night, and I thought it was a joke, until the video ended and Ian Rappaport tweeted out the official breaking news. I still don't know if it is going to last, or if it is really real. But seeing as BarStool Sports is currently banned from all NFL media coverage or anything related with the superbowl, McAfee essentially went from a Pro Bowl Punter, to banned from the NFL, over night.

McAfee has always been a jokster, and I know he did some standup throughout his career as well as being good friends with some of the barstool guys, but he was one heck of a punter. 3 knee surgeries in 4 years probably helped make the decision as well..

I saw this story this morning and I thought it was an elaborate joke. He's walking away from 2.75 million next season, plus there's a chance the team could seek repayment of $400,000 in signing bonus money. It seems like a pretty risky career move, but more power to him. He was a pretty damn good punter. Had a few highlight hits on special teams as well.

He said he spoke with Jim Irsay about it for an hour and 45 minutes, so that would be ****** if they asked for $400,000 back after 3 leg surgeries in 4 years.

Barstool is creating an Indianapolis HQ solely because he didn't want to leave Indiana, which is pretty awesome if you ask me, I can't imagine that they are going to pay him some crazy amount of money until he shows he can provide some clicks, likes, and overall reach, but it doesn't seem like the money means all that much to him.

I respect his decision to do what he wanted to do, and what he felt was best for him. But I could never make that decision and not think about it every day of my life.

Risky career move? The guy has probably made more money before the age of 30 then most will make in a lifetime - I say good for him.

I was just coming in to post this exact same thing. He'll make it. Especially at a place like barstool.
