Based on the candidates I hear, Fritz, Stitt, and Alford, I think 1.5-2 million. Frost and Calhoun I think would need 2.5...

Just don't pay so much that it takes resources away from the basketball program. Football has always been a liability.

1.9/mil a year with 200k bonus per win
After next year when we perform pretty good (Solid core of returners), he will renegotiate a new deal and Rhoads 2.0 begins

My guess is about $2mil to start with some sort of incentive program (maybe an extra $100k per win and a bonus of $500k if we win a bowl game). I like an idea like that because it makes the first year salary based off of incentives then opens up room to negotiate after the first year (please no more Rhoads contract 2.0). My hope is for Frost and I can't see him signing up for this gig for under $2-$2.2.

Under. BET YOUR HOUSE.

Would anyone like to tell me where my new house is located? Seriously though, a lot of poster were close to the $2 million. No way was the coach going to get paid more than Rhoads. I'm actually surprised he got a 6 year deal.

You guys perpetuate the myth that coaching salaries need to keep going up. Agents and coaches have you right where they want you.
A bunch of fans with keyboards are really setting the market for coaching salaries? Seriously, this post is fail. You pay what needs to be paid to get your guy. Like alarson said, the top 50 programs have a base around 3 million.

I am thankful the boneheads on CF do not decide what our new coach will be paid.

I always figured the new coach would be paid about what Rhoads was getting. And it looks like $2 million is the base salary for the first year. IMO, that is a very good starting salary. Iowa State has been a school that has ripped up old contracts and given money if there is success. And it is sheer insanity to pay the $3 million to $3.5 million per season for the applicants to be our Head Coach. Paying out huge salaries does not guarantee success. At the same time you pay a salary to get the person you want.............which is what Iowa State did.

Pollard sold Matt Campbell on Iowa State. The money was good.....no doubt. But it was the feeling that Iowa State is a "special place" that brought Matt Campbell to Iowa State. Matt Campbell is a guy who walked away from Pitt and his scholarship to play at DIII Mount Union, because he did not like the Pitt environment. Matt Campbell is more about substance than money.......they call it Character. Matt Campbell has Character.

Nope. The top 34 coaches have a base of $3mil. That's a pretty big difference from top 50. My best guess is he's right around 40-50 highest paid coach coaches between $2.25 and $2.5. Paying this guy $3mil is ridiculously high until/unless he proves himself to get that salary bump.

Except when he was first hired in 2015, his contract was $2M per year. Are you saying we'd have been more competitive in 2016 had we just paid him >$3M?
