Yeah, I don't even open them up anymore - I seem to get one once a month, and I just delete them. Someone once told me that if you don't actually open them then they don't count against your total and/or won't be charged for them (although I'm skeptical about that statement).

I'm about to call Verizon and yell at them for giving my number out whether they even did or not. Someone needs to get yelled at!

I better not get spam messages as text, that is what I use so I do not have to carry a pager, so I am hypersensetive to text messages.

I had this happen and I just kept getting them... I wasn't able to block the number through my phone but called Verizon and they helped me figure out how to do it. You log on through their website @ www.vtext.com

Once you are logged in, on the left hand side click on "Preferences" then "Text Blocking" and you will see your options.

I was getting tons of text messages from "[email protected]" and in my phone I wasn't able to block an actual email address. However, this worked great and they stopped (or were blocked) immediately.

Hope this helps... :)

What's even worse is when your "friends" send your forward texts like the forward e-mails that you get. Do people not know that some of us don't have unlimited texting?

My friends were texting me so much I had to finally just spend the extra 5 a month for unlimited. It was crazy. I kept telling them not to and they did anyway and it was costing a fortune.

I have unlimited texting, but I still only text most people when I don't want to bother them with a call (after 9:00 or so, for example). It drives me crazy when I get a million texts when I'm on the road for work - I got some while I was in Canada, and they were hugely expensive.

I have US Cellular and my plan has free INCOMING text messages and I don't have a text message plan.

By doing free incoming messages, I'm assuming this how the cell phone companies will be washing their hands of any text message solicitation.
