I've had a similar problem a long while ago, and it turned out that it was just a server problem somewhere along the route that your IP routes data through. I spent hours on the phone with Qwest, and they could find no problem. I'm not completely sure that this is your problem but if you run a "tracert" command, you can see where the connection fails, and there might just be a problem at that location.

what address did it resolve? Should be 74.86.70.202

Not that:confused: I switched to a different computer on my LAN and it's not having any issues. I went to opendns website and refreshed the cache for cyclonefanatic.com and it has several locations that aren't resolving.

Try overriding the DSN server on your network connection to 209.244.0.3 and see if that alleviates the problem

There's something screwy going on somewhere but I'm not familiar enough with this stuff to figure it out. I used this dns tool. Can anyone tell me what the heck is wrong?

Yeah, that works. Where/what is that server?

Was your network card set to obtain DNS automatically? It sounds like it's a DNS problem with your ISP possibly.

I just provided you with a non-opendns public DNS server to try is all.

As some of you may have experienced this afternoon, CF has had intermittent problems with being unavailable to some users at sporadic intervals.

The data center we use is one of the largest and most renowned (hence the cost) that exists but even that isn't enough to prevent the occasional problem. While DoS (Denial of Service) attacks happen every day in varying forms across the internet, our data center is usually well equipped to keep the problems from flowing out to the users. However, today we haven't been as lucky. All servers at the data center (tens of thousands) are affected.

A DoS attack started around noon central time and persists as we speak. Most of the fallout has dissipated and things look to be getting better by the minute, but some visitors may still have problems pop up now and again through the remainder of the evening. This goes for visitors to my other sites that are on the same dedicated server.

For those that don't know what a denial of service attack is, below is a good definition from Wikipedia.

Thank you for your patience and have a great evening.

Jer Lind

A denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) or distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. Although the means to carry out, motives for, and targets of a DoS attack may vary, it generally consists of the concerted efforts of a person or persons to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently or at all, temporarily or indefinitely. Perpetrators of DoS attacks typically target sites or services hosted on high-profile web servers such as banks, credit card payment gateways, and even root nameservers.

It's just a matter of the dns having timed out and/or been erroneously reported by ISPs and now those bad records are cached at the different locations. Once those caches empty and the DoS completely stops, it should be back to business for everybody.
