It only took 4 games, but I finally saw what I was waiting for from Sam. His TD pass to Montgomery is exactly what he should be doing as a 5th year senior QB. We have WR's that are 6-6, 6-5, and 6-3. Sam needs to trust his WR's can come down with the ball and throw it up even when they might be covered.

I have faith that your guys, when 1 on 1 with a DB, can come down with the ball the majority of the time. It's like one of the announcers said during the TTech Baylor game, you throw it up and you either get the ball or the call.

Yeah, I've been banging my head against a wall the last two seasons wondering why the hell this isn't one of our FIRST go-to moves in the red zone. It needs to be attempted at least once every trip.

Agreed.....trade our sideways screen passes for jump balls more often and we'd have tons of success.

Sam looked good Saturday....I also liked the mixing it up with TEs...and Juaun Wesley is a great spark plug...he's quick and can really open up a simple pass play.

It doesn't even have to be a Red Zone situation. I'd be happy to see us airing it out for 30 or 40 yards down the sideline once a drive in the same manner. We have talented receivers. Let them do their job, just serve it up to them and see what happens. Honestly, if we throw a pick at their 20 or 30 yard line, it's not that much different than punting it to the same place on the field.

Sam made some really good throws (and a few really bad throws) this weekend. If we don't lay a 1st quarter egg, we could have put up 50. Hopefully it gives the offense some confidence going into these next few games...they are going to need it.

He's pretty good at the 15-yard slant bullet pass, but that's about it. And while it's good that he's trained himself to stay in the pocket longer, he needs to use his wheels a little more often. He's basically no longer a threat to run.

This 1000x. With the way the game is officiated now if either Lazard or Montgomery are covered man to man, they are open, period. Put a little air under it and let them make a play. I think the problem in the Iowa game was that he was not recognizing when safety help was rolling over the top, leading to a couple throws into double coverage.

I'm still stunned that when we went 2nd and 2 that we didn't take shots down field; against KU... seriously? If you're ever going to try to build confidence THAT is the time to do it! SMDH. I know it isn't often this season where we were 2nd and 2, but it really seemed to happen a lot against KU and we'd follow up with a short yardage play. Painful.

There has to be a happy medium. He's been an effective scrambler in the past. There's no reason he should completely abandon that part of his game. Obviously, we don't want him to go back to his one read and run strategy of 2013, but a few 1st down scrambles on 3rd down can demoralize a defense.

It was pretty flat and a decent DB would have knocked it down. The pass should be thrown to land at the back, corner pylon -- thats how they've taught it since middle school.Sam's throw was a mix between a fade and a back-shoulder toss, but it worked out.

That's a big mis-conception. The reason you put air under the ball is so you can throw it sooner and give your receivers time to run downfield. Most go routes are thrown as a 1-3 step drops (whether under center or shotgun) and end up 30-35 yards downfield.

Sam doesn't need more time to throw the deep ball, Sam needs to put more air under his deep throws -- and keep them inbounds.

Someone needs to send a video of Todd B. and B Meyer. everyone in the stadium is sitting there going why the hell don't they throw a jump ball to whoever is in single coverage. There is obviously a good reason but I think I like our chances doing that vs. doing just about anything else.
