The Doors last Album.... and title track is the last song on side one. Just some really cool music in my younger years.

Riders on the Storm

Love Her Madly

Years ago I bought an original copy of L.A. Woman at a tag sale in Massachusetts. The jacket had a the bands image on a clear piece of plastic and the sleeve was yellow. They were asking 50 cents for the album.

"Hit the Road Jack" is one of the #1 singles in 1961. The song became famous after it was recorded by Ray Charles with The Raelettes vocalist Margie Hndrix, and eventually became one of Charles' signature songs. This song won a Grammy award for Best Rhythm and Blues Recording and is ranked #387 on Rolling Stone list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

If you are basketball fan, you probably have heard the song frequently being played after a player is fouled out of the game.

Exodus is a 1960 American epic film on the founding of the modern State of Israel. Its soundtrack album was composed by Ernest Gold and released in 1961. Its theme song has become one of greatest movie theme songs of all time.

Awards:
1961 Oscar - Best Original Score
1961 Grammy Awards - Best Soundtrack Album and Song of the Year

Vocal version by Andy Williams

Instrumental version by Ferrante & Teicher (reached #2 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart)

Finally, I should mention the historic significance of the hit song "Will You Love Me Tomorrow".

This song was originally written by Carole King and her first husband Gerry Goffin. It was recorded by American girl group The Shirelles (notable for their rhythm and blues). The song was released in Nov. 1960 and reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart in Jan. 1961. It's the first song by a black all-girl group to reach #1 in the United States.

Carole King also recorded her own version of the song in her iconic 1971 album Tapestry (see my post #7 in the thread).

1971 is impossible. Just impossible.

LA Woman, Sticky Fingers, Marvin Gaye, Sly and the Family Stone.... Impossible to choose so just enjoy them all.

Including the best goddam Zep song. Sorry, but I can't take you

If you are doing 1981 next week I am going to have to be refreshing for this thread as soon as you post it because I have several great ones ready to go for that year! 1991 has a lot of all time greats too.

More hits song of 1971.

Joy to the World by Three Dog Night stayed at #1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 6 weeks, the longest of all #1 songs in that year.

You've Got a Friend is one of the signature songs written by Carole King. It was first recorded by King and included in her album Tapestry. Another well-known version is by James Taylor from his album Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon.

The James Taylor version reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart. James Taylor won a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

1971 is a monster, classic after classic after classic.

This is a special one for me because Meddle is my #1. My favorite album of all time. It's okay that people call it the template for Dark Side but IMO PF got it all completely right on Meddle. I've got it on a couple discs and a couple LPs and I don't think I've gone a full month ever (except boot camp) w/o listening to it. It was the first PF disc I ever bought and that was mostly for the cover art...it just totally blew me away. One Of These Days is, in my opinion, the best track one / side one, ever.
