We've had the Sylvia Pop/country crossover posted.

And Sylvia's Mother by Dr Hook both posted and mentioned.

Here's another never played song by an artist also named Sylvia

Dr Hook fan, ‘79 When Your In Love With a Beautiful Woman, and ‘78 Sylvia’s Mother.

Had to look it up but was pretty sure Sylvia's mother was before '78 I remember it on the school bus in High School. Was 1972.

I wonder if the reason nobody plays it is because the bit about "40 cents more for the next 3 minutes" makes no sense to anyone under 45 years old. And also, why didn't he just call Sylvia directly on her cell phone instead of bugging her Mom?

What's more 90s than a ska band? The answer? Nothing.

Goldfinger had other moderate hits and did well with ska covers like pretty much every other ska band from the 90s. One of their songs made a few movie soundtracks but is best remembered from the Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game soundtrack.

So forgotten that I can't find a decent version of the video!

Goldfinger still has a special place in my heart. Saw them twice at People's and once at First Ave in Minneapolis. John Feldman has been a producer of music lately, if memory serves me right.

I remember Superman being on the soundtrack for Kingpin - a 90's classic!

One of those guilty pleasures. Herman's Hermits, but I much prefer the later stuff that gets no airplay anymore. This was one of their later hits, from 1968. Also love No Milk Today, East-West, This Door Swings Both Ways.

Kind of a 60's ABBA thing in my head...

Yes! Or he could just bugged her on Facebook. (Unless she un-friended him, of course). :)

In the telephone-tech obsolenscence realm, Sylvia's Mother reminds me of "Operator" by Jim Croce. Geez, Jim, just ask Siri how to get her number! :)

Addition to my first response: Even if we keep the traditional telephone operator intact, transferring the lyrics to present-day would sidetrack the story before the first chorus comes 'round.

And the operator says
If you wish to continue
Please swipe or insert your card
And, for security purposes
Using your touchtone keypad
Enter the last 4 digits of your Social Security number
Followed by the "Pound" sign

--> At this point, the listener thinks, "What's this song about again?"
