As a fan of drunk and raw Janis I hated this song when it came out. It's a great one for this thread though. ;)

Throwback Thursday Flashback: Dude across the hall in Dana House with the huge and high quality stereo setup playing Turtle Blues, "Listen, yeah, right there that's a drinking glass breaking and now that's them sweeping it up." Guy loved Janis but thought the Holding Company were instrumental hacks. I remember thinking at the time that Bell Boy (we all had nicknames in Dana) knows more about pop music than I do, a lot more.

Have you ever seen the film Festival Express where Janis and Rick Danko (The Band) are obviously drunk and singing Ain't no Cane on the Brazos?

My favorite clip of her though is from Monterey Pop (1967) where she blows everyone off the stage.

Well, the kids are all hopped up and ready to go, they're ready to go now
They got their surfboards and they're going to the discotheque A-Go-Go
But she just couldn't stay, she had to break away
Well New York City really has it all, oh yeah, oh yeah

In song title only, not in lyrics Strand of Oaks, "Goshen '97" -- Goshen, Ind.

Strand of Oaks is an a.k.a. of Timothy Showalter. He grew up in Goshen, then moved to Pennsylvania, storyline is autobiographical. J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) plays lead guitar on the track. If you're familiar with Mascis' work, you can tell it's him immediately.

This song is on my "Favorites of 2010" list.

Testifying
Spend about a week on Venice Beach

Too many cities to name

'bout a pimp named Shorty from the Oakland set

Bombs over Baghdad!

Left my wallet in El Segundo
