I have to include at least one that’s purely silly/funny-creative rhyming

"Security guards trailed us / to a record shop / We asked for Mojo Nixon / They said, 'He don't work here!' / We said, 'If you don't got Mojo Nixon / then your store could use some fixin’!'”

Two excerpts from “Game of Pricks,” (Guided By Voices).

I’ve mentioned the second example in previous music threads on CF, now & then.

Love this rhyme (first verse):
I’ve waited too long to have you / Hide in the back of me.
I've cheated so long, I wonder / How you keep track of me.

And, my favorite line from the track and, possibly, from the entire LP. (approx 36 sec)

“I'll climb up on the house / Weep to water the trees.”

Haven't seen much John Prine in here...

"...Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down, and won..."

"There's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes..."

Yeah, I was just thinking of posting some Prine.

some of my favorites :
“I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve”

“There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzin' And I ain't done nothing Since I woke up today

How in the hell can a person go to work in the morning then come home in the evening and have nothing to say?”

“Sam Stone was alone when he popped his last balloon”

My silly, but clever lyric. I always sort of crack up at the Zsa Zsa Gabor reference... at about 1:20 mark.

"She always wears charms, diamonds, pearls galore
She buys them at the five and ten cent store
She wants to be just like Zsa Zsa Gabor
Even though she's the girl next door"

Don’t ask me to explain the meaning … to me, the poetry stands on its own merit.

“Starting / With the affirmation of man / I work myself backwards / Using cynicism / The time-monitor / the space-measurer.”
