TOOD BLYTHE! thread.

I know the Todd blythe threads will start coming in, so i was thinking just start a big one. But this is ridiculous, if you cant give your most talented player the ball once you dont deserve to be a football team.

I was watching Todd the whole game, watching the coverages, watching his routes.

I saw very very few double teams on Todd, UNLV didnt take Todd out of the game, MAC DID! After a while I think Todd was getting very frustrated and he was not finishing up his routes, he was just jogging after meyer didnt look that way.

Thoughts?

Just for the sake of argument, what would be the reason a head coach wouldn't get the ball to the best receiver on the team? Do you really believe Mac is purposely keeping him from getting the ball. If so, for what reason?

Maybe a better explanation is Meyer didn't think he was open even when plays were called for him.

Yeah, but can't you just draw up a play where you just toss it to an area that Blythe is suppose to be?

That's what I don't get. Even if Meyer thinks he's covered, the play just calls for him to throw it to that spot..

You still throw it to him. The offense should be ashamed of their performance. Just a little better than Idaho State. Too many 5 yard penalties.

My biggest gripe is that we are not using him near the goal line. We ran numerous plays in the redzone where you are about guarenteed single coverage, and most of the time Blythe wasn't even on the field. I don't have anything against Jon Davis, but he should not be the only ****ing reciever on the field in the red zone. Just throw Blythe the jump ball and he's gonna win 80% of the time.

The thing that we did so well last year and most teams are very successful with is throwing the ball to the back-outside shoulder or upper-inside shoulder of a great receiver. Meyer has the talent and Blythe has the speed and jumping ability to get it done if they are told to. I don't buy it that he's too well covered when he's shown time and time again that he's never too well covered.

And about Meyer forcing passes to Blythe, I think Meyer looked completely off his game tonight. One of the passes he forced to Todd was completely stupid because he had a wide-open field in front of him for about 15 yards to run it himself.

I think something had to be bugging Meyer tonight because he was not our QB of last year. If we can't get it to Blythe or Flynn for a couple 20+ yard gains a game against Toledo and UNLV, boy are we in for it against Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, etc. I think we have the skills and talents but we sure haven't shown it yet.

I just don't buy all the excuses, it just isn't as simple as saying Blythe was covered too well, he absolutely wasn't. I know Mac wasn't throwing the ball but Meyer sure wasn't either. Something needs to be figured out though because Iowa's going to find their game and then Texas is going to give it to us like we've never seen before.

What happened when ISU tried to force the ball to Todd tonight?

Oh yeah...interception.

Todd was covered pretty well tonight...it was evident the UNLV game plan was to take him out of the game.

We should have just done better doing the other things.

I agree he was covered pretty well but he can get to the ball very well.

Why wasn't Flynn or other receivers having a record night then if Todd had all the defense on him? UNLV's passing defense isn't that strong to be able to stop all of our options.

Stevie did good but we have to have both of them working at the same time.

I guess I'm just frustrated by the lack of execution against such weak opponents with such a potent offense.

Meyer didn't have a great game, but we still won, I'm happy. Meyer will not play like that all year long, he had an off night, everyone does once in a while. Hopefully it's a while before we see another one.

Me too. The Cyclone defense...regardless of what some may think...was the strength tonight. The offense looked flat 90% of the time.

The defense sure did play well overall. I really was impressed with the rushing d for most of the game. UNLV had some very fast players and we closed in pretty well. The passing D plays pretty far off of the receivers for the most part but I think a few adjustments will help a lot on that regard, I sure hope anyways. But for such a young squad, they really are doing a solid job. Parker for president!

Ahhhh, ISU Football, such the drama :)

The offense did look flat. In my opinion they played an almost exact replica of last week's game. Had a few promising plays, but couldn't put the other team away, for whatever reason. Stevie Hicks ran pretty well tonight. Our D played very well. The rest of the team just pretty much sucked. Meyer was off, and special teams couldn't seem to spark anything. I will give credit to the partially blocked extra point (although good) and a good return here and there. COVERAGE ON SPECIAL TEAMS SUCKED!!! Wow, tackle somebody please.

I think after the interception Meyer was trying to get to Blythe, Meyer was a little hesitant with his gameplay and the rest of the team was too. We were doing pretty well up to that point if I remember right. (Getting a little tipsy right now, hhehe).

Much improvement still needs to be done (coaching and players alike). Next week's game against Iowa will definately be interesting! Both teams almost blew it.

Go Cyclones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Posts Jeremy!
Perhaps Jamie P. will hear our crys. We can't go on like this forever! (or have we been?) and as far as the Iowa match-up goes.... Todd has a major height advantage over the Hawkeye 2ndary. There's absolutely no excuse for not throwing to him.

Meyer threw the Ball to Blythe, Blythe didnt catch it Meyer did through it to were Blythe should of been.
so sit down and shut hell up about throwing the ball to blyte every snap already its horribly pathetic learn what a team is and how lucky we are to have all the receiving talent we do. Davis produced today Blythe couldnt he was well covered

GET OVER IT YOUR NEVER GOING TO SEE IT

defensive coach needs a talkin to. if we have a fast Defense then they need to play tighter and more aggressive. we had next to nothing for plays in 2nd half.

defense played well? how about some turnovers? fumble? interception? zero yard gains forced to punt? only thing I liked on Defense is how well they were in first half against run and applying pressure on the QB. second half Defense needed to come up with something to give ISU offense more opportunies

On the play where Meyer got called for the illegal forward pass, they were setting that up for Blythe deep, but they had under and over coverage on him deep, and Meyer had no other options. Other than that, we didn't really try for him tonight.

speaking of that play, did anyone see how far over the line he was?? It was a 5 yard penalty from the spot of the foul, yet the next play was only 2nd and 15. was he just barely over?
