Watching the Warriors-Nuggets game on ESPN. Monte playing really well so far matching up against Curry/Klay. Nuggets were down by 19 but Monte sparked a huge run and Nuggets now lead.

Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy spent about a minute talking about his style of play and A/TO ratio. Jeff Van Gundy said "he has been doing this since he played at the Harvard of Iowa, Iowa State". Funny little tidbit.

As much as I wish it were the case, I believe he said hardwood of Iowa, Iowa State. It felt a little like he caught himself with switching IA and Iowa State.

Monte looking good out there. Klay Thompson looking really good.

LOL at Thomas driving the lane and not even getting the ball above his chest. Don't think the Nuggets are going to comeback tonight hope I'm wrong though.

I'm glad some of you got to see MM vs. the GSW. I'll be watching it on DVR today. Monte's line sure looked better: 29 MIN, 17 PTS, 5-6 FG, 1-3 3 PT, 6-7 FT, 6 AST, 2 STL, 1 TO. Morris was tied for the leading scorer for Denver.

I couldn't find any clips of him on the Nuggets' Twitter feed but found a couple quotes:

Nader's dunk was posted above; too bad they took the L vs. the Clippers. Nader had the 2nd-most minutes off the bench; his final line: 19 MIN, 6 PTS, 2-4 FG, 1-1 3 PT, 1-1 FT, 6 REB, 3 BLK, 1 STL, 1 TO. Solid night for Dooley; he's establishing himself.

At ISU, I never associated him with defense - check out the steal and the rejection against the backboard:

Georges made a garbage time appearance for the Jazz, late in their loss last night. Naz dressed but didn't get in the game.

Burton is not with the Thunder on this trip.

No ex-Cyclones are in action on SAT or SUN. On Monday, the Thunder play the Jazz. On Tuesday, Denver is back on TNT.

I'm watching the Nuggets - Warriors game on DVR and checking some of the summaries of the game. Monte brought a lot energy from the first moment. Denverstiffs.com echoed some of the posters on this thread:

The bench unit finally started to find some rhythm as the quarter was drawing to a close, Monte Morris in particular. They were able to get the Warriors lead down to ten at the end of one.

The bench continued their good play to open the second and rode a 7-0 run to pull within three points. Morris was playing outstanding. He made a beautiful pocket pass to Mason Plumlee for an easy two, then drew an offensive foul and followed it up with a corner three to tie the game. Beasley joined the action and was the benefactor of some nice Morris passes to briefly get the lead for Denver but Thompson was back on the floor and still red hot from three.

This board usually disagrees with me but I've been saying all year that Monte is the Nuggets best perimeter defender. When they play Golden State it's REALLY obvious that he's the only player with the quickness and discipline to keep them from getting open looks. Not saying he can shut down any of those guys, but he's the only Nugget who isn't CONSTANTLY leaving a 3 point shooter open. Then of course he comes up with a good number of steals too.

I haven't seen them enough to disagree; he sure looked like it against the Warriors.

I agree! He and T. Craig were key in that huge turn-around from the 1st to 2nd periods. Both played great defense! Even on the alley-oop to Kevin Durant, Monté did a great job of contesting it & forcing him to shoot FTs instead (almost thought the ref might not call a foul).

Monte wasn't a bad defender or 3 point shooter at ISU but he has taken both of those things to the next level. He must have really worked his butt off as a pro so far.

Handling the ball, running the offense, picking spots for mid range/drives he reminds me of the same player we saw for 4 years though.

I'm trying to get my kid - a good slasher for a 9th grader - to learn from Monte's floater. He's money with that thing off the drive.

I'd need to actually watch his high school footage to confirm, but I have a feeling FH and SP may not have liked that floater as much as Monte likes it. No offense to those coaches but Monte is the type of player that probably knows the game as well as most accomplished coaches.

Or it's possible he just needs it more now with the taller players and instinctively adapted, either way he definitely uses it a lot more now.

It could very well be the latter. My son is used to getting to the rim (ok, quite a ways under it) but in playing more competitive AAU, there are a lot more (good) bigs so he needs to pull up more - could be a parallel there with college centers vs. the monsters in the NBA. Nuggets beat write TJ McBride has tweeted about how much he likes MM's floater.

It's a tough shot - easy to shoot long but in the NBA it works for Monte.

I read an article earlier this year talking about his floater. I guess he's been working on it non-stop since his Soph year at ISU but he lacked the confidence to use it. His mom talked him into using it more this year and now it's his most deadly weapon. That thing is spectacular, it neutralizes his height disadvantage in the lane.

Quote from Coach Malone in NBA.com's game summary:

“Monte (Morris) had a lot to do with keeping us in the game,” Nuggets head coach Michael Malone pointed out, praising Morris for “running our team, getting us into our offense, and making a play for someone else.”
