what is with the whole question why didn't you get recruited by bigger schools? "well first of all I'm white" i don't like that. race should have nothing to do with it beau

Blankenship understands why bigger-name schools didn’t come courting.
“First of all, I’m white,â€￾ Blankenship said. “And I’m 5-8. I’ve always played with a chip on my shoulder.â€￾

I don't think it is that big of a deal, if you look around, most of the big programs do not have a white starting RB. He could just be pointing out the obvious and if that is what it takes for him to have a chip on his shoulder and prove he belong anywhere regardless of color, I'm fine with it.

You are pretty naive if you think being a white RB didn't have something to do with his lack of offers.

I agree with you, but like it or not, schools did probably overlook him because of his race. . . .

I can't imagine this is the case. Seems to me a school will chase hard after the best players it can find. Too much is at stake for coaches and athletics administrations to let race enter into it.

OU and OSU are high-potent offensive schools. I'd wager they did a full evaluation of BB and liked him, but just not quite enough when compared to other national recruits. Just speculation, of course.

And now, what a great opportunity for BB and ISU to upend the apple cart!

I think if a guy can play, he'll get recruited - you cited Jacob Hester, but I seriously can't think of a starting white tailback in D1 football right now. I can't think of the last starting white tailback we had at ISU. The fact is there just aren't that many of us.

I know we like to think Race does not matter but do you really thing if The new WR Donnie ??? was black and was 6"6 200 pounds and ran the 40 time he had posted, do you honestly thing Donnie I think his last name is Dennert would not be playing for Florida, Florida state or someone like that?

Besides that Jake Sharp kid at KU that torched us and is the main reason we lost to KU in October... yeah, he's alright

I'm not a fan of this Beau kid saying that the big schools didn't look at him because he's white. Maybe he wasn't good enough for the OUs and Baylors of the world to come a knocking on his door.

This situation reminds me of a time about 25 years ago when a young Latino actor caused a bit of a ruckus because he thought that he was being passed over for some serious acting gigs because of his race. That actor, Cheech Marin. Tunrs out, he was just wasn't a good actor and that's why they gave the role of Scarface to Al Pacino instead of Cheech. The rest is history.

Both Florida and Florida State have had alot of success with white receivers, so I don't buy that... In fact, two of Florida's all time greats are white, as was one of their top WRs this year.

Give me a break. So what, all the big schools want white QBs and black RBs and WRs? What a joke. I'm sure Beau was kidding around and race is not why he wasn't more heavily recruited. Hopefully we are gonna get the better end of this deal.

It's not about talent level, or schools going after the best players. Certainly, in addition to the black tailbacks out there, there are white, asian, latino, etc kids that have the talent to be great tailbacks at the D1 level. So where are they? Do they get moved to other positions? Do they go unsigned? Where do they go? Maybe it's the culture that we live in. Maybe it's something else. But, you can't ignore that the discrepancy exists. The numbers just don't support any other argument.

With that being said, I don't think that Beau meant anything by his comments. Seemed pretty harmless to me.

I certainly didn't hear the comment, so I can't judge from context. But I know I have said at times in the past when my team is losing that "we have too many white kids on our team", etc. This is always said in complete jest and my guess is that Beau was just trying to be funny and probably doesn't really think his skin color makes any difference.

Just my guess....
