Official Signing Day Thread

Anyone else a little concerned with the OL commits? They are hard to recruit, maybe CPR didn't have alot of time to recruit this position?

It surprises me a bit that we couldn't attract some big studs on defense. ISU has tons of playing time to offer and we've had some success with guys going to the NFL.

Hopefully we have some hidden gems among the guys we signed. Maybe guys like A. J. Klein and Walter Woods will be ready to play from day one. Either way the returning guys are going to have to develop a ton just to move our defense into the top half of the Big 12.

There are some OL guys in the state of Iowa not yet signed.

It will be interesting to see if CPR offers preferred walk on or grayshirt to some of those type of kids.

In one word, NO. We have a group of guys in place already, getting healthy will help a bunch. hopefully coach Bleil and Fountain can help grow as players and become great.

We have 22 guys signed, Sims and Spears count towards last year, Tuftee counts for this class, so........................we can sign up to 4 more guys. Yet, I don't think that is going to happen. Mars and Marry would have been starting if not this year but the next. Sucks to miss out on them.

Question, I know that players can still sign after today, but can coaches still recruit after today or is the start of the dead period.

Though unlikely, we may still pick up some recruits. It may also be that Rhoads may give those extra scholarships to walkons, like McCarney was so big on.

I am suprised. I hope that means some of the guys redshirting last year are going to be able to step in and play quality minutes.

As the "we lost so and so" and "what are they thinking" continues, I remembered the scene in Hoosiers, when the team was introduced. This is our team, and I'm excited and ready for fall!!! Congrats to the new members of the Cyclone family!

Absolutely!! Great class, all things considering...
Quite a bit of speed and athletism. Kids ready to play their hearts out for ISU.. Get behind your team!!!! Welcome to the newest Cyclones.

Why did you expect a freshman to come in and play big minutes? I know its been done before, however with the experience we have on the line that makes no sense. Not cracking, just saying.

I wonder how much no DC contributed to that?

Maybe some guys want to know who their DC will be?

I see that half or more of our total recruits play on the defensive side of the ball. Want to explain to me how the lack of a DC had any kind of impact on that?

My takeaway is that the naming of the DC and defense coaches still need to be done soon.

From the recruting today, we still need more help from more hard nosed players in the game time situations. It appears that lack of a DC was a determinant in what happened today.

Surely we will announce a DC by Saturday.

Do the young people not want to try to play defense in the Big 12 and prefer to stay south?

Yes, we seem to have a good stable of defensive backs. But we're missing the beef in a big way. Plus I don't see the instant impact LB we've been able to land in the past. Guys like Dobbins, McKenzie, Bowen and Bibbs. We already knew those guys were good when they signed for ISU.

I think you might be reading too much into my post, I don't expect a freshman to come in and play big minutes. I expected a few more O-line recruits because the performance of our line the past few years hasn't been good.

Looking on the bright side, I stated hope that the lack of recruits might mean some of the younger guys already on the team might be better than what we saw on the field recently.

I believe we have some solid guys in there that are up and coming, but I would like to see more than that out of any class at OL every year regardless of who we have in the system already. Just my thoughts. For the record I am pleased with how this offseason has went for the good guys.

Lenny:(Rineyville,KY):: did Iowa State get any good commitments?

Tim Griffin: (12:43 PM ET ) Lenny: Paul Rhoads got off to a slow start because of his late hiring. But the Cyclones are still in the hunt for two key recruits - gamebreaking WR Sterling Griffin (no relation to me, I made add) and undersized LB Larvel "Pooh Bear" Mars of Apopka, Fla. Keep an eye for both of their decisions.

Who the hell is Sterling Griffin?

The lack of a DC, IMO, had nothing to do with the pro's or con's of this class. Sometimes other things in live are important to a kid, like being close to his family. Overall, I am excited to see what this class will bring to this team.

No love for the Clones!! I see Rivals has our class ranked 71st and the Schmuckeyes ranked 61st. We have 10 "three star" recruits they have 5. We have 1 "four star" recruit, they have 2. I don't get it. Where's the love???
