Judging from responses to the "next 6 games" thread (and others), I think a lot of us assumed 1-1 for this road trip. I guessed loss at OSU, win at TCU, and that was a coin-flip.

ISU is still treading water, but it's good-quality water.

This might surprise you, but almost all college basketball teams have bad performances, and are inconsistent game to game.

It doesn't surprise me. Saying it was a pathetic showing is the equivalent of saying the team had a bad performance. I'm not saying they're a bad team.

This team overall still has a horrible mentality that for whatever reason it can't shake, ever since Hoiberg arrived.

Our worst performances come against our worst competition for the most part. Our guys think they are better than they are and have nothing to prove or show up for against competition they feel is inferior to them.

Burton is the prime example, but Monte does it at times too. Naz plays hard no matter who we're playing against, but he's the exception.

I look for Burton and Monte to have great games on Monday because the competition will be good and they know the whole country will be watching. But on the road at Iowa or TCU.... they don't care and don't show up. That's not the sign of greatness, just laziness.

Well, I can agree on that. At least, consistency wise. The four guard lineup originated with Monte, Jackson, Naz, Babb, and Young. That's the four guard lineup people are talking about.
Agreed Solomon should have started second half. Not 3 possessions when things are already going really bad for Isu.

Yes, Burton was bad and TCU looked quicker and more athletic. It going to be hard for ISU to win when Fisher outplays Monte. I would expect Monte to bounce back

I don't get the ******** about the 4 guard lineup when there is no one on the bench who is going to make a difference. Young looked very slow in the game tonight.

I do wish Jackson would have played more in the 2nd half after his hot start.

Good point. Getting lost in all of this Burton-hating (much of it justified) is that Monte really didn't have a good game either and that might have hurt us even more. He didn't turn the ball over, though, of course.

TCU's not a bad team.

And Iowa's capable of beating other ranked teams. That happened.

TCU won at Texas the other night, where ranked West Virginia barely escaped today.

In a way, I agree. But I didn't feel like that today. This TCU team is much improved, and ISU has taken a step, all be it a small one, back.

To a neutral observer, TCU might really be a better team top to bottom. Sure they lack star power, but they are complete.

Here nor there
Another close loss, but the effort was good. We can't fault the team and coaches too much imo. We just don't have the talent, particularly when Burton is off. We're simply outmanned in too many ways.

Prohm needs to sneak more minutes for Young.

Maybe cause he can't bench a guy who is 1-10 shooting, constantly turning the ball over, and playing horrendous defense.

I get that, but nobody else could guard their length either. Guess I don't see the alternative. But yeah, somebody has to be able to box out. Sounds on the post game like we weren't able to follow the game plan. Sometimes you have to give the other team credit, too. There's a reason they were within 2 of KU in the last minute.

That Braziansky is only a junior. Get more of him next year. Ugh. Jamie Dixon will have them in the upper half of the conference, this year or for sure next year, imo.

Wish we could have landed Fisher. He'll be as good as Monte by the time he's done. Brodziansky (my best attempt) better than any big we've had since Brackins

Coach just said on post game show that maybe he should have got Jackson in more the second half. Good to know he figured that out 30 minutes after the game was over. Kind of like what Campbell said about Lanning after the last football game

That was my only critique of Prohm tonight, esp when we struggled on offense for most the 2nd half.

They have more raw talent, but very young pieces. Our experience should be getting us more than it is in a game like this

Not if that raw talent plays as well as it did today.

I'll admit that ISU had some chances to keep it closer and maybe win, but they also got some bad bounces/calls that didn't help.

Over all, it's like ISU football in 2012--put all the experience you want out there. It's really hard to beat better.

Getting beat by a team on the road that is more talented across the board than ISU?
You know, it's really hard to admit, especially about a team that's toiled in the Big 12 cellar for the past half decade, but it's true. The talent isn't necessarily better, but they are much deeper than ours and have size to boot. They are having the type of turn around on the hardwood that I dream of our football program having on the gridiron one day.

I just don't think the talent is much different really. Matt, Monte, Burton were all rated as high out of high school as any of their best. Plus plenty of talent with Babb, Jackson.
