You’re not discussing you’re demanding answers.

alright, thats fair. No one here has the answers.

Let's discuss then

My opinion is the staff should shift their focus out of the southeast, where its hard to get kids to come all the way to ames and isu has had little historical success and shift that focus into midwest states where kids are more familiar with ISU and where every ISU coaches have had successful players come from.

I follow, and agree with, the logic of "i dont care where they come from, just land good players" but is it fair to say that isu is NOT landing good players from the Southeast? Is it fair to question why they continue to recruit that area (9 of 13 offers in 2021 class)

It makes total sense though. That is where the majority of our staff has connections with AAU clubs. It seems like the Chicago thing was more lightning in a bottle than what should be expected going forward. I don’t think it’s a great idea to constantly be fighting headwinds in recruiting. They locked up Foster for 2020 which is another outlier for this staff so they seem to be able to pull off some magic while keeping their focus on their “home” region.

I think the staff needs a shakeup and that would be one way to bring about a shift in the recruiting strategy (bringing in a “midwest” guy). But that brings its own problems because the number of kids isn’t that big outside of Illinois and Minnesota and even Illinois has been slim pickings lately. IA, NE, MO, Dakotas, WI just don’t produce that many numbers. The kids that these states do produce is a feeding frenzy for every school in the Big Ten.

So you can go to FL, GA, TN and compete against the schools down there where BBall isn’t that hot for kids, or you can kick around the Midwest going against MI, MSU, IN, MN, WI, KU, IL (when they’re going), basically all of those schools could be considered “Basketball schools” (even though I agree FB is still king at a few of them).

I have no idea what their strategy is. It feels like we're trying to get longer, but who knows.

I don't see talent being Prohm's issue. This year's team I would say configuration is a fair criticism. Seems like he's trying to add good defenders but the team aspect of the D is lacking. In the end putting the ball in the basket solves a lot. I don't think anyone thought this team would be so pathetic in that area.

I think shooting was always a concern for this team.

Way up there
guessing all the big dogs will start hanging out in Nebraska now

They have been all winter, the Millard North team is loaded. Got to see them at the Metro holiday tourney, it was a dunkfest. They have 3 kids with HM interest interest and a 4th that gets attention from some smaller d1 programs (and Iowa lol), they get college coaches at nearly every game. I think Sallis goes out of state but the timing is perfect for Fred, he's been seen at several games.

Update with Hunter Sallis

https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/sallis-emerging-as-an-elite-prospect-in-2021

This year, Sallis has taken official visits to Gonzaga and Nebraska and he's been to Iowa State unofficially. He discussed them and many others who have been pushing.

Iowa State: "It was good. I really liked it and I've been to Iowa State a lot. The coaching staff, my relationship with them is good I talk to them almost every day."

you’ll get buckets and make the tournament.
They have 7 players averaging 10+ ppg

Conference Champion, NCAA Tournament, high profile non conference games, and like you said play for an elite coach.

Pretty much guaranteed to win the conference and go to the NCAA tournament every year.

All true, and thank you all for those.

I just think of the downsides --

-- crappy conference, minimal TV exposure
-- your season really comes down to a handful of games early
-- Spokane cannot be a "destination"
-- I cannot imagine their facilities are that fetching

What is the appeal to going to Gonzaga besides Few?

From what I hear the school is a really good school also. So along with what the others have said, Making the tourney, Few is a great coach, Great non conference, Great fans during games, great school. Lot's of Final 4's, elite 8's, and sweet 16's.

Add to that you're likely to have the same coach your whole college career. Few has job security and has shown little sign of interest to leave.
