I wouldn't be too hard on Gilbert because that is his strength and that's what he and Lipsey are being coached to do.

The challenge for a D1 guard is to put as much pressure on the defense as possible without crossing the line, and it's a very fine line.

When you get in the paint, even if you throw up kind of a wild shot, you draw the defense to you and create put back opportunities for your bigs. So even if you don't score, you're creating scoring opportunities for your team.

Unfortunately, with KSU's length, they were able to do an excellent job of protecting the rim today. Their bigs outplayed our bigs today.
All good points. My frustration with Keishon right now is that he is almost being reckless to the point of being a bull in a China shop right now. He gets into the lane and seems like he doesn't have a plan so he'll throw up a wild ass shot then flail hoping for a whistle. He needs to go to acting school this offseason if that is going to remain his go to move

There are definitely a handful of obnoxious asswad holier than thous in gameday threads. Would be interesting to see a breakdown.

You never answered the question: who should play for Gilbert and what happens when they get in foul trouble or don't do much better?

And is it holier than thou to call an ISU player a POS like you have?

KSU's putbacks/offensive rebounds aren't getting enough mention. They crashed the boards and ISU couldn't keep up for whatever reason.
This. We were so badly out of position for defensive rebounds, and one and done almost every time we had the ball it seemed

Who are all these fans claiming to be need to suck it up? Did someone post this today? Or recently? Do we really have fans who don’t appreciate how hard this team plays? Like, it’s our “thing” - literally playing hard defense is our style, i.e. TJ’s entire program philosophy - do we really have fans that are calling out our toughness?

I certainly don’t read everything on this board (and other boards) but I honestly cannot recall seeing any fans talking smack about our effort or toughness. Much of the dialog these last several weeks is how the team has played SO hard that they must have tired legs (it would be impossible not to have tired legs with our style).
See post #1106. There are others, but I'm too tired to hunt them down.

Again, he's being coached to penetrate as much and as often as possible...otherwise, they'd pull him off the court. But I get what you're saying.

Yep. Lots of folks b*tching about our guard play, but our bigs vs their bigs is the reason we lost the game.

I usually avoid game threads after a loss as it often brings out people who will go to extremes and claim the season is lost.

With that said, the offensive performance the last couple weeks has been concerning. Is it so concerning that the season is all but over? Far from it. Each season has its ebbs and flows. I think the offensive production will get better very soon.

Big picture: Iowa State finished 2nd in the Big 12 with a 13-5 conference record. Let that sink in. I doubt anybody thought we would get to 13 conference wins.

Lastly, it’s tournament time. It’s been a great season so far. Let’s sit back and enjoy these tournaments. Cheer on the Cyclones. They bust their tails off each and every day. Let’s continue to support them to the very end

Just for fun - I thought some facts may be helpful.

I know that's a foreign concept on this board, but facts can be useful.

Going back through this thread, there are 396 references to officiating. 35%

We have a problem people. Please stop blaming the refs for our poor play.

Alarson & 01 - You "dumbed" me.
Curious - do you have relevant information to share?

Or are you against facts in general?

A few were the middle school type with one of their bigs simply taking the ball out of the air over a guard.

Tamin and Gilbert aren't going to move a tree and it's not going to get called an over the back either.

I'm guessing they took advantage of ISU's 4/5's position away from the cylinder.

Scoring droughts of 5:33 (from 11-13), 3:36 (18-19), 2:01 (19-20), 2:36 (start 2nd half), 3:56 (26-28), 2:12 (33-35), 2:25 (43-45). In other words, we score in bunches, then go on long dry spells, thus we never seem to pull away completely, nor catch up completely.
Especially those two long droughts early zero in 5:33 and 1 pt in 5:37. Instead of being up 10 we are down 6-7 points.

But YES, primary culprits today are turnovers and giving up offensive rebounds. We perform average on those metrics we win today.

Wherever I go, there I am.
Can we please stop blaming the refs for every loss.

My god that's a pathetic pattern here.
What's also pathetic are those who can't differentiate general criticism of refs from taking the position that the poor officiating was outcome determinative. That's really ******* pathetic

I've just about moved on already. Would have been nice to have a chance at a shared championship, but now we get almost 5 days to rest and reset.…
While we all hoped for a co-championship, the severe beating Houston is putting on KU does make it a little easier to take. Sloppy game by the Cyclones and Self’s team not showing up today tells us it wasn’t in the cards.
