Why is it that when we can not run the football the Offensive Line sucks, and when the Offensive Line dominates we talk about how great Mike Warren is?

I am guessing because he is a patient runner and hits the holes at the right time. He has speed. He runs straight ahead. He gets the extra yards that other back can not. If the line sucks, then he or any back can not make anything happen.

Although not fair, it is the nature of the beast. The trenches rarely get the credit they deserve.....not a glamorous position.

He also has push at the end of a run like Troy Davis had.

The oline should be happy we are not complaining about the holes. Now the 12 yard cushion is the talk of the town.

When your o-line sucks it's hard to know if your running back is any good because your run game will be bad regardless. Right now we have a good o-line and running back. The running back gets the credit because most people are ball watchers.

Way up there
The line has been great this year, but I think it helps to have a back who can really take advantage of the holes they are making. Kind of feeds off itself so to speak.

This same logic should be applied to our qb play as well, heck this entire thread could. The reality is, the skill position guys always get the credit while the line gets them blame. Few people realize that its a 2 way street, a bad RB or QB who makes bad decisions can make an oline look much worse and vice versa.

I do not think Mike Warren is special. I think just about anybody could run through the holes he has been getting. Maybe I am wrong, but the guy does not seem to be making people miss. I do think he has improved his ability to get up the field after contact versus dancing around.

Yeah, this is right. Mike Warren does things that are hard to teach. First he sees where he needs to run, then he accelerates through holes and into contact. He's not big but he accelerates into defenders. The line has been doing a very good job, though.

It's hard to make people miss when there isn't anyone left standing.

Lets not get carried away I will say the line has played well for about 2 games in a row, second half of Iowa game was pathetic. Being overly critical I would say our line is average to above average. Warren has getting decent holes, but they haven't all been the size of a Mack truck. Warren is special because he is doing what good backs couldn't with our line. Warren gets 4 yards when he's hit on the first yard. Lineman love that. LOVE IT.

For the person who doesn't see Warren's potential, watch the replay of his long TD run, and watch how fast he squares his shoulders through the whole, not only that, as he squared his shoulders he does a head fake and makes the safety completely miss on a bad angle. So he saw the hole AND the player behind it, made the second level miss with the same move that advanced him through the hole and ran out of his shoes. Mike Warren is special people. There's a reason he isn't getting touched often.

edit: double checked it wasn't a TD after all
