AMES, Iowa—The No. 14 Iowa State gymnastics team could not overcome some uncharacteristic mistakes Friday evening in Hilton Coliseum as the Cyclones lost to Iowa 195.175-194.150 in front of a season-high 2,745 fans. The loss dropped ISU to 6-6 on the season. The Hawkeyes’ score was their best tally of the season.

“We seemed a little more unfocused than we should be, and I was really disappointed,â€￾ ISU head coach Jay Ronayne said. “We had a fall on beam that surprisingly shook everybody up, and we kept making mistakes after that.â€￾

Well at least they only count the first meeting toward the Cy-Hawk series.

We're still ranked above them, and the mistakes were 'uncharacteristic' of ISU. It's not like gymnasts 'compete' against each other, it just happens that the other team is performing in the same location at roughly the same time.

Both meets count, but we clinched the Cy-Hawk trophy with the first gymnastics win.

This is a good team that had its only off night since the first meet of the season. They have been getting better all season long, so let's hope they get back on their feet for the Big 12 meet, Regionals, and Nationals.
