Not to be too snarky, but that's freaking great. Just like football, ISU takes the moral high ground and gets beaten by that talent because of it.

I am going to go out on a limb and say ISU without Williams and Diallo will be better than St. Johns as long as Fred is here.

You're likely right, but that's not my point. If ISU is not recruiting NWG out of respect for UW's head coach, but they are allowing Williams to follow a former assistant, then ISU is unnecessarily playing at a disadvantage. If there is more to the story than that, I apologize, but if that is the case, quite frankly that's stupid.

He may not have to resort to dirty tactics at UK, but he hasn't always coached there. And despite them not being able to directly pin anything on him who seriously believes he was squeaky clean in what transpired that resulted in the vacating of two Final Fours?

Absolutely agree, I'm certain he did shady things at UMass and Memphis, but that doesn't mean he's doing it now at Kentucky. Does that make him a good guy now? No, but I think it's silly to accuse him of paying players at UK, when he doesn't need to do that to get kids to play there.

If NWG tells Romar he is interested in following Otz to ISU and Romar gives Otz the "blessing" like Fred gave Matt A regarding Williams, would Otz/Fred be interested then Chris? I know the Williams situation might be different because it could have been a bit more mutual, but don't tell me if Williams wanted to be at ISU that Fred would disappointed he was staying. It seems pretty similar to the current situation at Washington(player wants out, coach is disappointed, but is letting him go where he wants)

Whole situation rubs me a bit the wrong way. Otz takes Dime to UW, Matt A. Takes Williams to STJ, but ISU is holier than though to rub UW/Romar the wrong way and court Nigel Williams-Goss.

I'm sure there is more than meets the eye beneath the surface, but from a fan perspective it doesn't seem promising when you're losing steam on a lot of your recruits and not able to get any big coups in return.

How do you not think there is more to that story? Do you think Fred is that dumb that he would put himself at a competitive disadvantage out of... politeness? He is a highly competitive person who hates to lose.

If Fred was okay will Williams departure then we all should be too. And if Fred wants to pass on NWG, then accept it. He knows exactly what he has on the roster the next few years. He raised a program from the cellar. He knows what he is doing, for cripes sake.

Doing what exactly? He's leaving regardless if ISU pursues him or not. That seems less bad than getting a player with a signed LOI to flip imo.

Still haven't seen Chris (or Jeremy) answer this. From the outside I guess it could look like Otz moves and intentionally poaches NWG. But that's not what this situation appears to be. Why can't Otz contact and pursue a former player who happens to be transferring?

And I'm very interested about Jeremy's hint of secret targets. Publicly we appear to only be involved with a few last ditch targets, so I'm preparing to be underwhelmed...

Yeah, this is interesting because as of right now we have a list of potential transfers, but other than nwg, jw3, both of which it looks like we're out on, and thorne, who looks like he already has his list, I don't see any that overly excite me. And I can't see how we'd be in on one not on the list because they would have to make it official they're transferring before coaches can speak to them.

Then again I don't even begin to think I know how this all works...

Boucher already visited TCU and has scheduled visits to TT and MN. So, he still has visits he can take including ISU. We're late to the table, but also a higher profile program than the other suitors.

If he likes shooting the 3, ISU will allow him to do that. SF would be his position if he wants to play in the NBA. At least on one possession in a short clip, he looks like a slasher driving to the hole.

Hines or CW should pursue this.

To summarize, Matt and Fred onm way to see CheickD. Bad weather and Fred heads to see the other guy. MA accepts a SJU job from Chris Mullin in 24 hours. Everyone is happy. Cheick schedules head coach visits from three schools including SJU. Darien Williams decommits. Everyone is happy. DW then commits in 24 hours to SJU. Tariq Owens is snagged by SJU. Otz rushes back to Ames. Otz accepts. Otz back to going after Nick N. Henry goes after Boucher. Fred is not going after Otz previous recruit from UW. Is everyone still happy?

Dime is already enrolled. Trying to pull players from Romar because Matt went to St. John's is ****ed up. Think people...Fred is Fred, Romar is a proven coach, and MA and Otzensnatch are 30-something assistants. Young guys like MA and Otzensnatch would have to be crazy to try to screw them over. They have long careers ahead of them and they need these guys on their sides.

Welcone to recruiting.

Whether Romar needs more Fred in him, or TJ needs more Abdelmassih in him, it doesn't pay to accommodate both sides of it.

I'm still as ignorant about recruiting as I was yesterday. Thanks for the Welcone though.

Chris,

Why isn't ISU involved here? NWG is one of the top transfers this year. We have a connection (Otz), and he's a guy who could replace Monte if MM declares, or play side-by-side.
