Picked up Tree freshman year in high school band. (6' tall female...made sense) Didn't like it that much at first, but I don't have a problem with it at all now. I use it in combination with another word for most of my online accounts.
My mother-in-law has said she specifically named her three boys so they couldn't really have a nickname. I still shorten my husband's name sometimes, but only at home or in front of good friends, and only when addressing him. His other nickname is just his "initials", but not used very often.
