It's interesting, he had a very challenging time financially growing up and while in college. Had to work multiple jobs during summers to afford tuition and rent, lived with his mom and a classmate in an off campus apartment because his mom couldn't afford her own place, he almost got booted because he couldn't pay his tuition bill. The guy really struggled, apparently seeing college players today being handed hundreds and thousands of dollars doesn't sit well.

I actually understand and can empathize with coaches who think the system is screwed up now, because it is. I just accept that you aren't going to put the genie back in the bottle given the court rulings. At least until the next thing comes along to upend it all again.

Coaching an entitled little prick who has been told he's the greatest by everybody in his life and always had the hottest girls throwing themselves at him and has the disposition to match this life experience that one might call "Ryan Leaf Personality Disorder" is probably absolutely no fun at all.

Now give that second one six- or seven-figures when they turn 18.

See how much better that makes things.

Tough and maybe impossible act to follow. Greatest dynasty of my generation and Bama isn’t exactly a top dog in the NIL world.

Alabama tried that when Bear retired. Didn’t work very good. Until Saben showed up. Could this happen again? Look what happened to UCLA Bball after Wooden retired. Seems they were a train wreck for 15-20 years? I could be off there, sorry. When a legend retires, good luck.

Thanks for sharing that, I had never heard that before. To my recollection, he was the first coach to ever speak badly and even “threatened” to leave the sport if players got paid. I’m pretty confident his stance on both topics has led to Clemson falling from the elites of the elite.
