Amen to that. Don't go around telling everyone, though. I'd hate to have to wait in line for a good BBQ place.

This area has a lack of good BBQ in my opinion. Battle's is about as close as it gets. Jimmy's in Boone is about the same. Hickory Park is a joke.

Im also always down for gyro's, I usually get two or three everytime I get them! But my favorite place to eat the last year i was in Ames was The Cafe. Its right across from Ames Racquet and Fitness Center out on north stange. My old roomate Charlie is the manager out there. Hes an Iowa fan...but a real good guy. They have a variety of foods that vary every 6 weeks or so. Usually gormet stuff. Actually pretty reasonably priced too. I think they even have fresh fish flown in for a sushi night every couple weeks.

The Cafe. Sounds great. I would not have thought of that right off the bat. I would have thought it was more like Bishops used to be.

that's right, I wouldnt be caught dead in Ruth Chris' Steak House, food at the Cheesecake Factory is horrible....I hate it when people do things just to differentiate themselves from others and then bash those who are different- Prius owners, Mac lovers, if you like chain restaurants you have no tastes and i'm better than you, etc. If that fact you don't like chain restaurants makes it easier for me to get a place to sit in one then I'm all for it.

(Actually, the food at Cheesecake Factory IS pretty crap. Apparently they have 8000 things that they don't really do all that well.)
