I think people are sleeping on Lewis. I realize that we haven't seen a lot from him and a lot of people probably hoped he would be working his way into the rotation this year. But he's still stuck behind a ton of experience and talent. I'd say there's a chance that he transfers, but my hope is that he sticks around. He may not end up being a star, but he certainly could be an athletic wing who has some shooting ability. That has a place on a Big 12 team; you need role players as much as stars. He's looked pretty good at some points when he's gotten playing time.

CW had...

Haliburton
Nixon
Horton-Tucker
Conditt
Jacobson

My own WAG...

Haliburton
Wigginton
Horton-Tucker
Jacobson
Lard
---
Nixon
Leech
Conditt
Young

+ spot minutes for anybody after that

Haliburton takes over at PG, and Wigginton replaces Shayok as a starter.

TH, LW, and Nixon take turns bringing the ball up the court.

We swap the fourth guard to a stretch position -- Jacobson, maybe Conditt.

Nixon (experience) and Leech (overall talents) backup the established guards. The starters each play 30+ a night, leaving roughly 30 (and maybe some extra if and when we go small in bursts, like we did during the 2016-2017 season) minutes available.

So maybe 20 and 15 for those two in some combination.

Solomon is used situational when bad Lard shows up or we need some muscle.

The four big men each play about 20 per night.

Even without Wigginton, we have a pretty talented and experience roster coming back for next year. I think the program is of high quality and has a sustainable line of talent.
I will go with
Nixon
Halliburton
Wigg
THT
Jacobson

I hope we are. It would be nice to have a consistent 3 point threat.

And the ability to chase wings around screens. I haven’t seen anything that leads me to believe that any of the bigs are capable of defending a mobile stretch 4.

History indicates that size isn’t the most important factor in grabbing rebounds.

That guy from Baylor that destroyed ISU on the boards is 6 foot 5.0

That is a definite possibility if we are keeping the 4/1 style.

The relative balance of talent and experience on the roster is much more towards the big men next season compared to the domination of the guards this season, though.

I think we are going to have to play 3/2 next year, at least part of the time.

Jacobson and Conditt have potential as stretch big men to preserve spacing.

He will not play as long as he remains lost on defense. And it’s not that he is lacking athletically... he just doesn’t understand positioning.

I really hope Prohm plays 2 bigs. I'm so tried of watching us get out-rebounded.
PG Wigginton (I don't see him leaving for the NBA)
SG Halliburton
SF THT
F Jacobson ( I like him better at the 4 because he can knock down 3's)
C Lard
6 Man Nixon

Jacobson is shooting 19% from 3's in conference play, so not hanging my hat on that.

I assume Wigginton will leave, which is largely mitigated by Nixon being similar. Haliburton could largely fill Babb’s impact. Shayok won’t be replaced, but hopefully growth in THT and improvements in defense and rebounding offset that.

Haliburton
Nixon
THT
Jacobson
Conditt

Off the bench:
One of Jackson or Leech
Lard
Young

There is likely to be at least one other newcomer. If that’s a starter level guy, the outlook improves significantly.

This year Haliburton surprised, but many had Zion or Talley getting regular minutes. If Zion emerges as another Hogue or Anderson a true 6’8” that can shoot and handle, maybe they steal minutes from the bigs.

Regarding Wigginton staying or leaving at the end of this year. My understanding last year was he was told by people in the industry to get more experience on the point. If this is true, then whether he stays or not may depend on how much time he sees as PG. And I have no idea what the answer to that is.

Like others, I hope he stays. For his sake and ours.

Somehow, next year, we need a floor leader. A Naz Mitrou-Long, a Monte Morris, a George Niang type. That is all that is missing this year, in MHO. Any thoughts who that might be?

He’s 4 for 21. THT had a similar stretch as our 4 this year. As a full time four, I’d be more worried about his passing and handle on the perimeter than whether he’d pull out a defender.

Really tough to say without knowing who will be back. Wigginton, THT and Lard are pretty big what ifs. If THT doesn’t come back, we have nobody really capable of starting at the 4 right now. You’d almost have to go with 2 bigs. If Lard and THT aren’t back, I don’t think we have two bigs you can start because we’d be hurting offensively. I don’t think Jacobson/Young or Jacobson/Conditt works that well. It’s going to be an interesting offseason to see what happens.

My ideal starting lineup would be:
1. Prentiss Nixon
2. Lindell Wigginton
3. Tyrese Haliburton
4. Talen Horton-Tucker
5. Cameron Lard

6. Michael Jacobson
7. Solomon Young
8. George Conditt
9. Marcedus Leech
Terrence Lewis/Tre Jackson/Zion Griffin/Luke Anderson

Locks to start:

Prentiss Nixon
Tyrese Haliburton
Michael Jacobson

Starters IF they return:
Lindell Wigginton
Talen Horton-Tucker

Wildcards who could start:
Cameron Lard
Solomon Young
Marcedus Leech
Tre Jackson

Non starters but could be in the rotation:
George Conditt
Terrence Lewis
Zion Griffin
Luke Anderson

Seems there is general consensus that Lewis is going to be sent down the river. Why is that? If 1 of tht or wigginton go pro, he is the next man in

This "next year" stuff would seem to be an even more futile exercise than normal.
