I'll stick to my earlier comments, but honestly, at this point, don't care. I just want to beat Texas. I'll be happy beating Texas with Po the teletubby on our helmets.

I prefer our original twister logo but I like this one and really like the fact that we're trying to incorporate the Cyclone name into our helmet. With that said, can we please for the love of god stop changing/adding secondary logos every 5 years?

I mostly enjoy reading reactions of others in these uniform/logos threads but have to weigh in just a bit as a designer. I see both sides to the instant reaction here. Some of it is just nostalgia and familiarity for the old twister logo...but there is some valid criticism that the new mark lacks a certain dynamic motion the old one had. The simplified fan made update that floats around this site would reproduce better in small printing/embroidery and does have a little more implied motion.

Criticisms are valid, but to those outside of the ISU family few will have the gut punch reaction I'm seeing from many here. If you wanted the cyclone/twister/tornado back this is better than nothing and certainly it doesn't look embarrassing or unprofessional. Even with rebranding projects I've worked on where the company admitted the logo was horrible and hated...there's still automatic resistance to a well thought out improvement. I'm not saying this is an improvement or not over the old twister, just that even when it's an objective 100% improvement a large number of people still get emotional about it.

I've noticed the national media likes it a lot more than the local fans.

That is my biggest issue. They really could have updated the old twister logo and knocked it out of the park. They decided to go a completely different way and is very underwhelming.

Don't get me wrong much better than the current I State logo, but not nearly as good as it could have been.

I agree with you. But, if they are willing to change the logo, why not make it more appealing and end this debate forever.

While I definitely prefer the I-State logo on the helmet, and agree that it is a bit too much red on a red helmet, I like it as a secondary logo. My problem with the old cyclone logo is I dislike the 'wings' or motion design at the top of it.

I think he was kind of hinting at the fact that it's an impossible task. Your more appealing isn't my more appealing, etc. It's a little bland but more palatable nationally, is what I was taking from that post. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah, it really is impossible to an extent, especially instant reactions of those familiar. I redesigned a logo for a company with two owners where their logo just was hideous and hated. One owner embraced it and would come to me months later saying he wants to puke when he sees the old logo, just over the moon loving the new design. The other owner would come to me secretly with "a few ideas" years later of how to "make it better" that were really ways to revert to the old one that most people hated. Their old logo was what I'd deem unprofessional, neither tornado mark falls in that category.

Remember how our I-state logo was chosen. By voting! Why not do similar thing for the secondary logo as well so that we have 'more appealing' one. Surprises not always sweet!
