New TV

I'm looking for a new TV. I'm looking to spend in the $500 to $700 range and I was wondering what everyone thought about off brand TVs like Dynex and Vizio. The TV I had before was a Samsung which is one of the top brands for TVs. It was awesome and never had any problems.

My question is if I can get a 46" Dynex LCD 1080p television for $500 or the same specs with a Samsung for $700, what is the difference between those two TVs? I understand off brands are not supposed to last as long, but it is a TV, unless the screen stops working there isn't a whole lot that can go wrong is there?

And if anyone has seen any good deals I'd be happy to hear.

I had a Dynex last all of 1 year before completely ******** out. I will never buy another one. I've got a couple friends with Vizios... seem to be pretty nice.

I have a 47" Samsung in my living room and have had it for 4 years. Never had a single problem and the picture quality is dynamite. Unless you plan on not using the TV a whole lot i would pony up the extra couple hundred and get a Samsung since you were happy with it the first time.

They are off brands yes, but you have to also look at whether its 720P or 1080P. 1080p is more clear and will give you a better picture than a 720 (especially at 46"). Here is some more things you might want to read:

I have an Insignia and it has been a great TV, and wasn't overly expensive (but it's way better than a vizio).

Also were you looking for an LCD or a Plasma? Plasmas are cheaper than LCDs of the same dimensions.

I have 3 Vizio's. I like all of them. Within the brand, there is a lot of variety so I can't speak for everything. I buy 3 differnet sizes of the XVT series. Full Arrry LED LCD. For the price, I don't see how they can be beat.

Technically 1080p does nothing for you except for use with a device broadcasting at 1080 (blue-ray player). Cable companies and dish companies do not broadcast in 1080p yet so the only reason to get 1080p is for future use when they do start broadcasting in 1080p or to use with a blue ray player or some other device.

I'm looking pretty much just at LCDs. I'm also debating on whether LED backlit is worth it to go down a few inches. Any thoughts?

Most Tv stations do broadcast in full HD, I'm watching shows in 1080p right now. You just have to have a box that allows you to view them, which is free from Mediacom. My Tv even tells me if the show is being broadcast in 1080p or 720 or less.

Don't they broadcast in 1080i though?

LED Tv's are superior to LCD TV's in terms of speed, viewing angle, true colors, and length of life however like you know they are much more expensive.

I have an LCD and have been perfectly happy with it. But if I had the money I would buy a LED.

vizio is the way to go. i own a 26'' and a 42'' and ive never had any problems them. we bought our 42'' 1080p at walmart last october for $550 which was easily $200-300 than the nearest competitor at the time

Ah, yes I meant 1080i, which is a little less than 1080p. Both are almost the same though.

Also if you are going to use your TV for gaming you want to make sure there isn't any motion blur, so you want a faster TV.

LED tv's are still LCD screens that use LED back lighting. The only way to get away from and LCD screen is to go plasma.

Yes, I had some motion blur with my Tv, but it has a gaming mode that takes care of it.

I would also put my vote in for Insignia. Great tv for the price. However...there is something about the Samsungs. If I wasn't such a cheap arse I'd but those everytime. But like I said the Insignias seem to be an excellent value.

Point of reference here....I also bought a proscan lcd. While it works good for most tv...for gaming you really notice the motion blur. I see movies on my friends Samsung and really do notice a difference... but like I said that was for an uber cheap proscan. I lost the Insignia awhile back in a breakup so I can't remember if that had any motion blur or not lol.

Bottom line if you're on a budget I would recommend the value pick of the Insignia (I never thought the Vizios were that great personally) But if you have the extra money...you'll love the Samsung.

Go plasma, you wont be disappointed. LCD are now old school. A plasma has darker, darks and whiter, whites giving it more contrast and a better picture. I bought a 42 Panasonic Viera Plasma and love it. IF you can afford a Samsung, that is the only plasma that is 'better'

$600, 1080p, 600hz, rediculous pixel ratio, has an auto-refresher so nothing gets "burned" in the tv.
