put some beef on him and he goes from a mediocre tight end to an athletic d-end/interior d-lineman, gotta love the 6-6 frame

Agreed. One thing KF at Iowa has been knownn for is taking tight ends and putting them in the OL. They tend to be quicker and have better footwork. This guy might be able to go either OL or DL, who knows.

"He had seven catches for 87 yards this season."

I'm guessing the coaches are looking at positions other than TE by reading this quote in the article.

He just needs about 70 pounds added to that frame and then, maybe, we could replace the term "pancake" blocks with "another HAMMER thrown down by Hammerschmidt". What a cool name that would be for a O-lineman. I love tight end position switches- it adds speed to the O-line positions which would be good for a complex offensive system.

At 6-6 235 right now he could grow into an OL or DT.

Not impressed with the lack of D1 schools recruiting him.

The receiving stats could be very deceiving. It appears that he played on a hs team that almost always went for the big play when they passed. Usually this is not a TE friendly offense.

An article I read showed season stats thru 11 games with team total passing stats of 88 catches for 1506 yds. This is only 8 catches per game, but over 17 yds per catch. Keep in mind that one of his teammates is a 6-4 WR (Kemp) who committed to Wisconsin in June. Mizzou was still after Kemp as late as Nov so he must have some talent. A preseason quote by his hs coach mentioned that it was nice to have a returning TE who was athletic and only a step slower than his much more heralded teammate.

I'm all for giving the kid a try at TE based on what I know at this point. If it doesn't work out, THEN you still have some other options.

At 6' 6", he would definitely have the "long arms" Chizik talks about at DE.

And maybe they did not have much of a passing game or a good throwing quarterback.

I have a great idea. Why doesn't GC post the name of each potential recruit on CF and then we can tell him if we approve of offering them. That way we'll be certain of getting the best players and have a NC in about 3 yrs. We could even go one step further and tell them what players we feel are good enough to even concider.
