I'm sure the word "upscale" is used extremely lightly. It is Campustown after all. I think there is a market for this with ISU students.

I don't think there is, except for an extremely small subset of the student population and it's not difficult to figure out what that subset is from reading what the owners said. They are basing their model on using specialty drinks to set them apart. Are college students going to continually pay for specialty drinks? I don't see this as something the majority of bar-going college students will go for. College students want to get drunk on the cheap.

I think you'd be amazed how many college women would like to go into a bar with non-disgusting bathrooms where they don't feel like they're going to get an STD sitting down somewhere while wearing a skirt. If you can get the girls in there the men will follow no matter what the price is.

I think this place will be a hit. College students would love a dance floor that people actually go to. Plus these guys have unlimited funds so they'll keep putting money into it until it works.

I haven't been out of college THAT long, but dang, a lot of these bar names are going way over my head.

Nothing will ever match what People's was. RIP

It has always been that way in Ames. When you business plan is give drinks away to get people in the door, you are not going to last long.

Bars come in go in the Des Moines area also. The bars I went to 10 years ago are all gone for the most part.

There is no such thing as unlimited funds. If they do have a pile of money they should be smart enough to get out when they start losing their ***.

How do they have unlimited funds at 25 and 20? How does a 20 year old think he can run a bar when he's never been able to (well legally) experience the scene.

not to name names here, but one of those owners knows Hoiberg really well, not that that has anything to do with the bar.

He knows Rhoads family pretty well too, That doesn't mean he has any idea how to turn a historic business failure into a gold mine. Being that fresh out of high school I can also imagine they will end up with a "minor" problem, because you know he will be getting his friends in the door; Which can fill a place up, until Ames PD cracks down.. and they will.

Any word from the posters still in college on how this bar is going? What the college crowd thinks of it? Pretty interested to see if this bar stays a float based on its "upscale" theme it's going for.

Loaded parents and inexperienced kids operating a bar. Sounds like something that's going to end up on Bar Rescue
