curved displays are worth it. Those that wear glasses, it keeps the edges near the distance needed. Also, don't be afraid to take it back if it doesn't work for you.

I just did a presentation on eye strain for our work safety committee:
  • Match monitor brightness to room light levels
  • Place monitors arms-length away or slightly further
  • Place monitors slightly below head/eye level. You don't want to be looking up at your monitors.
  • Look at something far away every 20-30 minutes - out a window, across the room, etc.
I'll second having a portrait mode monitor if you do coding. It's really nice to be able to get a whole function on the screen without having to scroll. I do like to have a landscape monitor for Excel and PowerPoint work. You can get monitor stands that allow you to rotate the monitor based on what you're doing.

For home I have a pair of bare bones Acer 27" 1080p resolution monitors , they were around $130 each. I would say with 27" or greater in landscape you want to make sure they're at least arm's length away as recommended above.

My 2 cents:

At home I have a standing desk with 2 27” monitors on flexible arms, which I connect to a laptop.

At work I have a desktop on a conventional desk with a 38” Dell ‘ultrasharp’ curved monitor.

I don’t code or do super high res visual work, but I do a lot of writing and editing, and I find I strongly prefer the 2x27” monitor + laptop setup over the ultrawide single monitor. I simply find it much more intuitive and seemless to move applications and windows around on the multi-monitor setup.

I work with a 34"curved monitor, a 27" vertical monitor and a laptop screen. The 34" can easily be used for multiple windows and the horizontal one is great for viewing documents (and email). I use the laptop screen for media streams and meetings. The whole rig can probably be done for under $1500.
