This team also is getting killed by quick guards. They can't guard them either one on one or on ball screens. I don't understand what they are doing on ball screen defense either.

Still the best defensive team we've had since ______________

I actually thought our ball screen defense was much better last night

I've noticed a decent amount of people grouping Jacobson and Lard together in terms of defense and rebounding abilities in multiple threads over the last few weeks, and while Lard goes for blocks too often which causes him to be out of position to get a rebound and his emotions can get the best of him and affect his effort, Lard is much better than Jacobson on the defensive end. I remember at least once last night where Lard went up over 3 Baylor guys and got the ball. When Cam's right he can be a difference maker on that end whereas Jacobson simply doesn't have the athleticism to compete with Big XII bigs. I appreciate MJ's toughness and effort, but he's just over-matched on the defensive end at the Big XII level.

Games like this will continue to happen if we always play 4 guards. Prohm tried to go a little bigger in the first half with Talley but that still didn’t get the job done. I think he needs to put 2 of Jacobson/Lard/Conditt on rhe floor in certain situations. Problem is that the regular season is almost over and we’ve never done it so it might be too late to try.

You can’t continue to get dominated on the glass and win tough games. Not to mention that we pose very little interior scoring threat so Baylor hugged up on us on the perimeter all night.

Even the smallish 2000 team would pair Fizer and Shirley fairly often and that allowed us to beat big teams like Kansas.
This is exactly what I said to friends after the game last night. I looked up a one point and saw something like they had 42 rebounds and we had 24. We gotta play bigger against a team that has length. Why not throw both Lard and Talley and/or Jacobsen and Conditt in there at the same time? Is it production will fall off? Is it fouls? I think we could live through the attrition due to fouls....we have the depth to do it for at least the second half. Why not at least try it and see if changes the game? Prohm did add Talley early in game but it seems he was out on the perimeter more while trying to drop down to help out once in a while.

Right now this team is better at defense than the 2016-17 team but that team was pretty good defensively too (Thanks Prohm)
Two weeks ago it was way better than any recent team. Hopefully they can figure out how teams are exploiting what they are doing on defense and fix some things going down the stretch.

I did think our ball screen defense was better last night but man we get so lazy with it at times

Just like Baylor @ Waco, Iowa, TCU, and the K-STate loss we flat out got beat by guys working harder than us. We have too much damn talent for us to get beat by teams because we refuse to match their intensity. It's one thing when this happens on the road but to lack energy in Hilton make me want to puke.

This, in my opinion, is where Conditt comes in. The guy is energy. Nobody is saying he should be out there for 20 minutes but if he can give you high energy and five fouls for five to ten minutes...that's a win in my opinion. His play early in the season was just a small sample size but I really, really liked what I saw.

Love Wigginton, but he is the one who (almost) always seems to be making a mad dash to make up lost ground, or losing his man on screens/switches/help D. He's also great at getting into passing lanes and tipping/intercepting passes, so I guess I've just grown accustomed to accepting the good with the bad from him.

Hines does make a good point here in terms of playing two bigs at once

No One is asking to scrap what has been successful. We're just asking for game to game adjustments according to what is kicking our ass. This game was offensive rebounding. The Kansas game was 50 points given up on layups. At some point during a particular game you have to do something, anything different.
