My conference tidbit

Dr. Lloyd is a wonderful benefactor of ISU. He would know as he is close to the situation. He donates without fanfare. I have heard nothing but great things about Dr. Lloyd.

Well, if there is a good feeling that we will land in a good situation when this is all over, I hope things move quickly. Look how fast things changed from who is coming to the Big 12 to where are we all going to end up just based on a single quote from OU. A scenario with a happy ending for ISU on Saturday may be completely irrelevant by the end of this week as things shift. The longer this drags out the more uneasy I get about having a good home when it all ends.

No offense but what else is he going to say? "Sorry, but we're completely ****ed."

Unless, Harkin and Grassley threaten to withhold farm subsidies from Big 10 states I don't think there is much they can do to ensure that ISU finds a good home.
Perhaps taxes can be raised on the LHN. There is one subcommittee that handles taxes......

I would literally laugh my *** off if ISU was accepted into the Big 10. Then we could create a thread on CycloneFanatic getting the emails of every single journalist who spelled gloom and doom and tell them to suck it.
Yet we would be giving up the clonezone for the BTN....

Not sure if K State makes the cut, they are already splitting up a 12 piece pie into too many pieces. Missouri is the one of those that brings in TV sets via population(5.8 mil?, even though it's split btw MU, Ill, KU and others), and KU has the BBall relevance. That locks up a lot of people in MO, KS, NE, IA watching football or basketball for those two teams. Iowa State has competitive facilities and good academics, not to mention good overall AD strength as mentioned before, this helps our cause but "footprint" does not. Combine that with the fact that MU, KU and ISU are all AAU schools. If ISU makes it in under some sort of deal with the Iowa legislature or something I think the Big Ten goes east/south with pick #16.

Poor academics, lack of state school loyalty and lack of overall AD strength screw KSU. Plus Bill Snyder is freaking 100 and can't coach forever and they know they can't win without him. Unless they pull some Weekend at Bernie's stuff.

Chill out man. No one would jump down your throat if you had said the same thing.

+1 for Pablo. I think KSU only gets in based on KU. I'm still hoping that they let in ISU based on Academics & other factors to make B1G look like a good guy.

How funny is it that Nebby lost their AAU status right after the B1G let them in.... f'n bug eaters!

Just as complete, wild speculation based on ZERO knowledge, I could see Pollard thinking "I can sell that."

We already set a precedent of giving more money to certain members in the BigXII for various concessions. With new schools with wider TV audiences, a enw Big East contract could give us close to what we were projected to make under realistic BigXII scenarios. What that buys us is much more beneficial competition and more level playing field and a brand new balance of power. I would be willing to say that we stand a pretty good chance of being a power player in a "western" division setup of the Big East, and at the very least very competing for the division championship fairly often.

If he was selling that, with an AQ carrot at the end of it with decently realistic shots at the BIG EAST championships in football, I bet a lot of people would be buying. Imagine that Farmegeddon game with Big East championship game on the line. That actually sounds pretty good to me.

Cheers

This ^^^^

I don't see why everyone thinks the BE would be such a horrible landing spot. With a new TV deal (remember LOTS of TV's in the NE), the financials could be similar to the B12. Conference titles could be a real possibility in football, unlike now. I know basketball doesn't pay the bills, but could you imagine the Big Monday matchups when Fred gets it rolling?

Good point. I guess in the world of conference realignment, there are no rules set in stone.

Nebraska was in the AAU when they joined. AAU dropped them after the announcement was made to join the Big 10. I am not sure if the events were reversed, that Nebby would have gotten the blessing from the rest of the conference. The same is happening with OU, OSU, and the PAC-12 right now if you believe the reports that Stanford and UCLA wish to remain at 12.

Dr Gene Lloyd (the lloyd who's name is on the side of the VET MED addition) just told me that He, JP, GG, Harkin, Grassley and 3 or 4 US House members were all in a suite up in the pressbox Saturday and they met again yesterday. I ask Dr. L if the Big XII would survive and all he would say was "change is good" and "we will be more than just alright." He's 87 and sharp as a tack and is NUTS about ISU. Quietly given millions upon millions. While telling me this, his smile was one of great satisfaction. You can take this or leave it but it made me feel a whole lot better.

He also said that looking at the new scoreboard is difficult from up in the upper pressbox, have to bend over to see it.

Thank you for the post! Do not doubt the power and influenc of a state with very senior US Senators, especially when they are from different parties. Not many people truly understand this. Harkin could single-handedly turn off research dollars for universities. Grassley could work with his friend Max Baucus to turn off nearly all other federal revenue streams.

Just to add to what others have said, the fact that JP, GG, and our Congressional delegation have kept mum publicly tells me that ISU is well positioned. If they were all flailing and jumping in front of TV cameras, I'd be very nervous. Especially if we had US Senators brow-beating league officials, that would tell me that ISU was in trouble. That is not happening.

This information is very comforting. Thanks for sharing.

Committee assignments for Senator Grassley are here: Committee Assignments

Committee assignments for Senator Harkin are here: Senator Harkin's Committee Assignments

As one can tell, between the two of them, they wield a huge amount of power over where Federal dollars go and who gets what. Notice the Committee on the Judiciary has the power to look into the anti-trust issues surrounding the NCAA and the tax exempt status of university athletics in general.

It is a very positive thing to have them involved in conference realignments and very comforting knowing that such an outstanding ISU alumnus and Cyclone fan such as Dr. Lloyd is also working with the inner circle of power brokers in the ISU administration.

No matter what happens, it cant be said that we didnt have the right people in the right places at the right time. I have no doubt that whatever happens for ISU is the absolute best we could have gotten out of this mess, be it the B1G, BE, or MWC.

Just heard on Twitter from Bob Fescoe (610 sports radio in KC)...

could KU and Iowa State go with OU and OSU to pac 12? Could boise state go to pac 12 w KU, OU and OSU? So many rumors! stop the madness

Did I miss something? Is there a proof statement? --One that proves the above meeting(s) took place?

Interesting if it is true....

If we go, we're gonna have to change our football uniforms....:twitcy:

You know, it's funny that I've played that scenario in my head over the last several weeks, and after a second or three outright dismissed at as more deluded than a pipe dream. But, considering the original post, who freaking knows anymore? I certainly wouldn't complain about a Pac 16 membership, although it's likely I'd never attend a road game ever again considering the travel distances (I guess that's not saying much, considering HOME games are virtually road games for me anymore)...
