Perhaps taxes can be raised on the LHN. There is one subcommittee that handles taxes......No offense but what else is he going to say? "Sorry, but we're completely ****ed."
Unless, Harkin and Grassley threaten to withhold farm subsidies from Big 10 states I don't think there is much they can do to ensure that ISU finds a good home.
Actually, they lost their academics after the quick firesale move. They are the second smallest institution at 24k.Neither does Nebraska.
Yet we would be giving up the clonezone for the BTN....I would literally laugh my *** off if ISU was accepted into the Big 10. Then we could create a thread on CycloneFanatic getting the emails of every single journalist who spelled gloom and doom and tell them to suck it.
Not sure if K State makes the cut, they are already splitting up a 12 piece pie into too many pieces. Missouri is the one of those that brings in TV sets via population(5.8 mil?, even though it's split btw MU, Ill, KU and others), and KU has the BBall relevance. That locks up a lot of people in MO, KS, NE, IA watching football or basketball for those two teams. Iowa State has competitive facilities and good academics, not to mention good overall AD strength as mentioned before, this helps our cause but "footprint" does not. Combine that with the fact that MU, KU and ISU are all AAU schools. If ISU makes it in under some sort of deal with the Iowa legislature or something I think the Big Ten goes east/south with pick #16.
Poor academics, lack of state school loyalty and lack of overall AD strength screw KSU. Plus Bill Snyder is freaking 100 and can't coach forever and they know they can't win without him. Unless they pull some Weekend at Bernie's stuff.
Chill out man. No one would jump down your throat if you had said the same thing.
Just as complete, wild speculation based on ZERO knowledge, I could see Pollard thinking "I can sell that."
We already set a precedent of giving more money to certain members in the BigXII for various concessions. With new schools with wider TV audiences, a enw Big East contract could give us close to what we were projected to make under realistic BigXII scenarios. What that buys us is much more beneficial competition and more level playing field and a brand new balance of power. I would be willing to say that we stand a pretty good chance of being a power player in a "western" division setup of the Big East, and at the very least very competing for the division championship fairly often.
If he was selling that, with an AQ carrot at the end of it with decently realistic shots at the BIG EAST championships in football, I bet a lot of people would be buying. Imagine that Farmegeddon game with Big East championship game on the line. That actually sounds pretty good to me.
Cheers
Or 3 years, but who's counting.that's not a bold fact, this would be a bold fact:
3 schools have left in 2 years.

Good point. I guess in the world of conference realignment, there are no rules set in stone.
Dr Gene Lloyd (the lloyd who's name is on the side of the VET MED addition) just told me that He, JP, GG, Harkin, Grassley and 3 or 4 US House members were all in a suite up in the pressbox Saturday and they met again yesterday. I ask Dr. L if the Big XII would survive and all he would say was "change is good" and "we will be more than just alright." He's 87 and sharp as a tack and is NUTS about ISU. Quietly given millions upon millions. While telling me this, his smile was one of great satisfaction. You can take this or leave it but it made me feel a whole lot better.
He also said that looking at the new scoreboard is difficult from up in the upper pressbox, have to bend over to see it.
Thank you for the post! Do not doubt the power and influenc of a state with very senior US Senators, especially when they are from different parties. Not many people truly understand this. Harkin could single-handedly turn off research dollars for universities. Grassley could work with his friend Max Baucus to turn off nearly all other federal revenue streams.
Just to add to what others have said, the fact that JP, GG, and our Congressional delegation have kept mum publicly tells me that ISU is well positioned. If they were all flailing and jumping in front of TV cameras, I'd be very nervous. Especially if we had US Senators brow-beating league officials, that would tell me that ISU was in trouble. That is not happening.
This information is very comforting. Thanks for sharing.
