My conference tidbit

This tells me that we at least have a Big East invite that has been conditionally extended. Possibly other options too. Assuming of course that this guy is in the loop.

I hope something does transpire soon. I actually had difficulty enjoying tailgating last Sat wondering about all of the negative possibilities.

Dr Gene Lloyd (the lloyd who's name is on the side of the VET MED addition) just told me that He, JP, GG, Harkin, Grassley and 3 or 4 US House members were all in a suite up in the pressbox Saturday and they met again yesterday. I ask Dr. L if the Big XII would survive and all he would say was "change is good" and "we will be more than just alright." He's 87 and sharp as a tack and is NUTS about ISU. Quietly given millions upon millions. While telling me this, his smile was one of great satisfaction. You can take this or leave it but it made me feel a whole lot better.

He also said that looking at the new scoreboard is difficult from up in the upper pressbox, have to bend over to see it.

With so much at stake for the future of ISU, the State of Iowa, college football, the economy, and nationally for the media, the BCS, and billions of dollars in the big boy's pockets, it makes sense that this whole scenario is being played out behind closed doors.

It is not the type of situation where all of the power brokers are going to come out and make minute by minute updates for the press and hold meetings on live TV.

If the people in control of the situation at ISU and our state legislators are happy and confident and saying that change for ISU is good, then I believe it. Harkin and Grassley are two of the most powerful senators in Congress. Grassley has threatened the NCAA more than once with looking into their tax exempt status. The last thing that the NCAA, the sports media, the conferences, and the universities want is for Congress to get involved with their sports.

Thanks for the info, rebecacy, maybe your tidbit will put some people's fears to rest for a bit. The next few weeks or months could be very exciting for ISU and the Cyclones. It could be historically great for ISU!

Would Dr Lloyd be someone who is normally contacted about issues like this or do they need to make sure they have backing for possible exit fees......

That ship has sailed.

No kidding. If there is a miracle and it somehow gets salvaged in the upcoming weeks, it's going to collapse eventually. You can't trust OU anymore and I really don't trust any schools in this conference anymore for that matter. This is an ugly conference.

I agree...this needs to end, as far as ISU is concerned, soon. Conf realignment is a nasty black eye on college sports right now.

Thanks for sharing. I do think Grassley is definetly involved again recently in some way, to what degree or how serious I do not know. This post is more than I know for sure.

My bold prediction...Missouri, KSU, KU, and ISU join the Big 10 to form the first 16 team football conference, Texas goes independent, and the remainder of the Big 12 south schools either join the SEC or Pac 12.

What "helped" you come up this?

I'm glad our elected reps are getting involved, regardless of how much or little they can actually do.

The ultimate fact remains. There are schools that stand to lose a lot more than even the biggest $ makers stand to gain.

When it comes to Academic Institutions, this should set off a Red Alarm (or Tornado Siren in our case) The ramifications for being left out of a BCS conference would be catastrophic. Enrollment, University Status, Research $'s, and on and on could be affected. (it may not happen within 2 years but it would landslide over the course of 10-20 years)

The other sad fact is that Geographically, Academically, & Culturally we are situated right in the middle of an ideal conference (Big 10) but the hunger for $'s will prevent that from happening. Take $ out of the equation (and mindless hawk fans with an axe to grind) and Iowa State would be a perfect add to the Big 10.

That would be the ideal scenario. Legends and Leaders:rolleyes: could dissappear and the logical East and West divisions would form. The B10 would pick up the entire Midwest and maintain their "Academic Integrity". (with the exception of maybe K-State)

They have a thirst for the East Coast much like a vampire has a thirst for your blood. They do not want more Midwest - they already think they have it all
