Looks like type of stinkhorn. Those things can smell like crap when u try removing them if thats what it is.

try them and if you find yourself being chased by Giraffes then you will know they were probably not portabellos

I have found it in northern Iowa in Summer.

It is edible right now -- sauteed it is not too bad but soon will get tough and bitter.

The first fungus image is of a young stage of stink horn of unknown species and are not edible.
