Are you sure your mp3 player is capable of supporting video? As it is, iPod was only capable of supporting video in it's most recent 4GB/8GB Nano release...

If it's one of those Chinese mp3 players that only plays AMV files, you're going to need to convert them to AMV before you drop it on the device.

There should be a tool to do so either on the device, or on a CD that came with the device. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like it's as simple as "drag a file to the device and hit play".

The files apparently need to be transferred to MTV files. When I try to convert my video clips from a DVD it says something about installing codecs. I don't know which ones to install or if they're legal or if you can even use DVD's to do this. I need some help.

Are you trying to convert directly from a DVD to MTV?

That probably won't work without a few steps in between. You'll need to get the DVD into some sort of "computer" media, i.e. AVI. For that you'll need something like DVD Decrypter and AutoGK. DVD Decrypter would pull the files from the DVD onto your hard drive, while AutoGK would encode it to a movie file. After you get the movie file, you'd have to re-encode it with the MTV encoder to get the final file you'd copy to your player.

A pretty big pain, eh?

Messing with DVDs is a bit of a pain, but once you get the main video into an AVI or MPEG stream (outside of the VOB files that come from the DVD), it's a lot easier.

i'm running into a problem again. after i put the DVD files onto my hard drive using the DVD Decrypter, I tried using the AutoGK thing, but it said that the file type was not supported. Do you know a way to fix this.

Nevermind, i'm finding that only the files that are VOB are allowed. I don't know if that's normal, but do I even need the IFO or BUP files?

Which file are you trying to open?

Do you have a directory full of .ifo files and .vob files?

You'll want to open the .ifo file for the biggest "group" of file names. i.e. if you have a directory that looks like this:

Code:
12/24/2007 08:38 AM <DIR> .
12/24/2007 08:38 AM <DIR> ..
12/24/2007 08:21 AM 20,480 VIDEO_TS.BUP
12/24/2007 08:21 AM 20,480 VIDEO_TS.IFO
12/24/2007 08:21 AM 1,726,464 VIDEO_TS.VOB

You want to select VTS_06_0.IFO, and for a movie, you'll want to select the longest PGC (if there are multiple PGCs).
