When my wife was in high school she got mono. Missed 2-3 months of school and never fully recovered. Basically damaged her immune system. Symptoms progressed over and time and now 30 years later she still has daily body aches, constant fatigue, and a mess of other issues. Some days doesn't feel well enough to drive, fortunately works for home, and like many other with chronic fatigue... just taking a shower is an up hill climb. Mono ruined her. Symptoms were rough, but after having our only child in 2014 they got worse.

She's had 2 really long bad bouts with influenza the last 4-5 years. Also a mild case of Covid had her out of action for about a month which is another fun side affect of this life long illness. Most people don't have our perspective on a really bad possible long term effect of a virus, so we viewed covid a bit differently than many others. However I was surprised at a lot of the outright defiant attitudes taken towards doing any sort measures to mitigate exposure to covid to to avoid possibly passing it around.

Sorry for the doom post.

Was SE Iowa
I had mono in school, I walked in on roommate once, he was spraying my bed with Lysol. Didn’t really blame him.

Agree, mitigation not practiced. Speaking as one spending visits in emergency room with Covid and later RSV.

Mono put me in the hospital during my time in Ames. Wasn't all bad. Got to watch the entire Masters on TV, won by Ben Crenshaw.

Had walking pneumonia in college. Took stats as a night class. Grading scale was crazy. Had a 95 going into the final which was the bottom A so I skipped the review. Call the prof day prior to final letting him know i was ill. Told me skipping the review was missing 3 classes so he wouldn't reschedule my final. Fell a sleep during the exam scored a 36 and had to retake the class. Wanted to appeal but he was the head of the department so I didn't bother.

Not exactly sure.
Sorry to hear that
How old are you? Mercy in Mason city told me I set the record for the oldest confirmed test at age 49, 3 years ago. Only record I hold so I’m hanging onto what I can.

I drank a lot of warm tea with honey mixed to sooth my throat. The steroids helped and my throat was better in a couple days. I was misdiagnosed as strep and given antibiotics first. They told me to not take them as it could cause a rash, I didn’t listen and just looked to see if a rash started. Felt better in a few days. Took me awhile to get back to full energy though.

Most people recover just fine, but it takes time. Keep that in mind, and stay positive. You'll be OK!
Again sorry for the doom post. The experience we've been through is invisible and its a reminder that everyone you meet may be going through something. Unfortunately, none of us are getting off this planet without a fight.

I was diagnosed with mono last night. Like a couple of others, I have white patches near my tonsils and they are causing swallowing discomfort. Back of mouth was sore for 1.5 days. I went to urgent care last night thinking I had strep. I’m already anxious about other things in life and I’m not looking forward to bedtime. Got zero sleep last night. Anyone had experience with that white sht and please tell me it won’t go away for at least two weeks
Hang in there. I got it in Ames too, and it was the first time in my life I was really sick. Had to get ultrasounds for a spleen the size of a basketball. The physical symptoms are not the worst, but I will warn you about the different sensations and weird mental reactions you may have. Literally felt like a different person for months after, with a weird brain-fog, but it will clear. Just keep moving forward.

Had it and didn't know. Went in for my football physical my junior year of high school and found out I had mono. Sore throat is about all I can remember, but didn't slow me down much. About like covid the way it hits everyone differently.

Had it summer of 2022 at age 34. High fever, miserable throat and slept for 3 days straight over a weekend but by Tuesday was back at work. I own my business and have always taken a 2 hour lunch so it allowed me to take daily naps for about 2 weeks which was vital. I didn’t have any long term side effects.

Had it the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school. Had to sit out some baseball games due to my spleen? Or some other internal organs being swollen? Hard to remember now. The biggest thing I remember is the fatigue. I slept probably 18-19 hours a day and it was a challenge to eat/shower/stay awake for more than a hour at a time. This lasted about a week and half but the fatigue lingered for months.

I am absolutely miserable. White stuff still on enflamed tonsils. Hard to swallow foods, even soft foods. This won’t let me nap or sleep for more than two hours . I swear the drugs don’t last long to make swallowing and functioning half way possible. Got a nice canker sore on the soft palate near my tonsil. Side of tongue swelled a bit

My sore throat finally cleared yesterday and the white stuff on my swollen tonsils is still there but vastly improved. I really haven’t had much fatigue issues at all yet but I definitely lost some muscle strength. I do have a some hives on one arm around my elbow only for some reason.

Only posting this if some person in the future gets this dreaded infection and searches this forum like I did. I’m on Day10 as far as I know

If you haven’t already, I would recommend telling your doctor about the hives. You can get them from the mono like other viruses and bacterial infections, but if he gave you medication or you took otc meds for some of the symptoms, it could be an allergic reaction.

I had bad strep in high school, enough they hospitalized me. They decided I was allergic to penicillin when I got hives and a bunch of skin came off my feet.

I also have a perfume allergy and broke out in hives and had an asthma attack from the freaking open bin of soap bombs at Hy-Vee. Also walking by a perfume counter and at church from incense.

Very sorry you have been so ill.
