When my wife was in high school she got mono. Missed 2-3 months of school and never fully recovered. Basically damaged her immune system. Symptoms progressed over and time and now 30 years later she still has daily body aches, constant fatigue, and a mess of other issues. Some days doesn't feel well enough to drive, fortunately works for home, and like many other with chronic fatigue... just taking a shower is an up hill climb. Mono ruined her. Symptoms were rough, but after having our only child in 2014 they got worse.
She's had 2 really long bad bouts with influenza the last 4-5 years. Also a mild case of Covid had her out of action for about a month which is another fun side affect of this life long illness. Most people don't have our perspective on a really bad possible long term effect of a virus, so we viewed covid a bit differently than many others. However I was surprised at a lot of the outright defiant attitudes taken towards doing any sort measures to mitigate exposure to covid to to avoid possibly passing it around.
Sorry for the doom post.
