Trying to avoid the blonde female bias of not caring about a missing white male. A man has been missing from Walker for around three weeks now.

"Bagley, 31, left his home on December 13th. His wife said Bagley told her he would be back after a bit. He then took off with a person she didn't really know-- leaving his truck and wallet behind. He was last seen on December 14th in the Cedar Rapids-area. Investigators are not saying who spotted him."

"In the time Bagley has been missing, he's made no phone calls to family, sent no messages, and left behind few clues as to where he may have gone."

I immediately went to thinking of kidnapping from gambling debts or something.

Seems odd. You would think if he knew this person well, there would be communication that could be tracked on his phone with who he’s been calling

He could have been using a burner phone or had a texting/calling app on his phone that he deleted before he left. Also, the other person could have been doing the same thing so there'd be no way to track it.

What does that mean? Like, she had seen them before but didn't know their name or the person was just someone she'd met once or twice before?

From the available info, it looks very much like someone running away from something.

Is that really a thing in real life? Honest question.

I don't know. Maybe not like on tv or in movies where someone's coming to break legs, but it wouldn't be all that surprising if he had racked up a significant debt and just decided to try to run away from the problem.

Not exactly sure.

You think he would have been forced to empty his bank account and either have been spotted at the bank or a trail of ATM withdrawals (unless he had no cash then one withdrawal). So I would guess this is not one.

Or maybe a cash advance against one or more credit cards. I've never taken one but I'm assuming that if you were planning on disappearing and had no intention of paying it back that would be a good way to get some quick cash.

I took one. I thought it was like purchases, where if you paid it off in the time period, there were no interest charges. I saw my bill and never did it again.

If that’s the case, I’d much rather him do that than pull a Chris Watts

Yes, they start charging interest from the moment you make the transaction. Pretty hefty fee as well if I remember. I did it once as well. And it wasn't even all that much money

Yeah, it would only make sense if you had no intention of paying it back. Although maybe if you try to do it with more than one card it gets flagged in the system. I don't know. It just seems like if you were short on funds and wanted to disappear that would be your best route to get some "going away" money.

I don't mean to make light of the situation, but maybe this is a Friday OT thread idea @Angie : If you wanted to disappear and start a new life, how would you plan it?

It certainly seems like a situation where he decided to just walk away. Being that he left with someone, I assume the police have been looking for surveillance footage that can show the vehicle he left in.
