MLB: Milton Bradley

Bradley has been less than stellar so far this year. He's been oft-injured (no surprise), standoffish with the media (no shocker) and his play has been sub-standard.

Last night's line: 0-6, 3ks & 10 LOB...yikes (he did have a nice catch, although some seem to think that Reed Johnson or Hoffpauir would have made the same catch standing up).

Bradley has been getting killed on all the Cubs message boards I've been to. Despite his poor play, I still think the guy can make a difference. Switch hitters that get on base, have a good grasp of the strike zone and have the ability to hit with power & average from both sides of the plate are rare, though we've seen little of those attributes this year. Lou has said that he is going to keep getting Bradley AB's, so it doesn't look like he's in the doghouse, but at some point, this becomes a serious concern.

It's been his M.O. his whole career, usually more trouble than he's worth. I think everybody saw it coming this time around as well.

Seeing the Braves get McClouth made me wish that Hendry would have made a play for him.

Most position players struggle in their first 2 to 3 months with the Cubs due to the fact that they aren't use to playing so many day games. I think that's 1 issue another is the fact that he's been a good avg hitter in the american league well the cubs aren't playing in the american league. I also think when Aramis went down he put a lot of pressure on himself to help out and he hasn't done very well at all. I think the biggest thing is that he can't seem to stay completely healthy thou. I hope they use him as the DH the whole time when they go to the American league parks and don't recall Fox

The rest of the team has not been hitting on all cylinders all season either.

However they're only 2 or 3 games out in spite of that.

My hope is the second half of the season they gel.

Ryan Theriot is tied for 2nd on the team in homers for goodness sakes, which is just ridiculous.

And could Alfonso Soriano really not "feel comfortable" enough to hit .240 anywhere else in the lineup? He is their only legit power threat right now with 14 homers and a dismal 27 rbi's...the whole, "he only hits leadoff once a game" is garbage...he is their only power threat right now, and instead of having guys with good obp's hitting in front of him so he can hit more than just solo homers, the cubs count on the pitcher, and guys like Blanco and Koyie Hill getting on for him...let alone, how many leadoff hitters in MLB hit .240 and don't draw walks?

The Cubs also complained about not having any left handed bats in offseason, and then completely ignored Micah Hoffpauir's blistering hot start. He's finally cooled off a bit as the frequency of his ab's has went down.

Not to mention Neil Cotts staying with the team a month and a half too long because for some reason it was better to have an AWFUL LHP facing lefties than a decent right hander.

I just really don't understand a lot of the things that the Cubs do (even though I let them effect the happiness of my days)...now I'm hearing they are interested in getting DeRosa back...if that's the case, I have a VERY hard time seeing them deal away as little as the Indians gave to get him.

If someone would have told me that they would only be a few games out of first with Ramirez out, and 4 starters hitting under .250, I would have laughed at them. To me this shows just how week the central is this year.

Some regression was expected...and the threat of injuries was known too. I doubt too many people expected him to be hitting .190 this deep into the season.

I totally agree. At least the all right handed lineup won 90-some games and had home field advantage in the playoffs. Obviously, Aramis being out is playing a large part in this, but that shouldn't affect Soriano. Also, could Kevin Gregg suck any more? Really, this is the guy that Hendry wanted? Are you kidding me?

There are players to be had before the trading deadline. Brian Roberts, Aubrey Huff, Matt Holiday, Eric Byrnes, Brad Hawpe are all available. Hell, DeRosa & Wood are available. The Cubs have to upgrade at 2b and they have to get another reliable bat, even if it means shopping Bradley (which they won't do). Also, for the love of God, please overhaul the bullpen.

He then went on to trade DeRosa for four players who will most likely never see the major league's...Blanco was happy in Chicago, and was about as good of a backup catcher as there is, and he said good ridance to him, and allowed him to sign in San Diego for 300,000. The Cubs then signed Paul Bako for 300,000, and cut him...not to mention downgrading at closer signing Kevin Gregg.

I was happy about the Bradley signing at the time so I won't rip on him for that...at least that was an aggressive mistake.

Once the Sox fall out of it, all of Jermaine Dye, Octavio Dotel and Bobby Jenks should be available. I'd cringe at the thought of Dye and Jenks on the northside, but Hendry would be well off to take a look.

I liked getting rid of Marquis. The signing of Bradley I understood. But trading DeRosa i was confused and then not to offer arbitration to Wood ticked me off because they could have gotten a draft pick for him if he'd have signed elsewhere. The Miles signing was a joke. Not a great offseason but then again the Cubs are being sold and we don't know what was ordered to hendry about the situation and contracts.
