Totally agree, Boot. I had the same impression on Sunday. Only ISU's plan was portrayed as a "gamble". Iowa's was portrayed as a brilliant master stroke to create a "cathedral" to college football.

Not a bad point...except....

When you consider Iowa's budget is much larger, the have a bigger fan base, they have a much better winning tradition, etc.

I dislike "negative" press toward ISU as much as the next guy...just keeping things in perspective.

True. I have not walked a mile in your shoes there.

Exactly my point, which is sure there is a level of risk to it but does the Register always have to spin it in a negative light and do the opposite for EIU. We all know without looking at numbers that $135 million is a gamble for an expansion. But rather than the article spending 90% of it talking about our current level of debt and how unsuccessful they think we have been in the last 5 years why not concentrate on where Mac has brought the program from and how this will benefit ISU and put them in a new arena to compete for a new level of competition. I just think the media coverage in Des Moines is pathetic and if you watched Fox News at 9 you could see it even worse. Last night they ran 5 minutes on the Iowa football team for expectations and then switched over to interviewing Iowa basketball players about the coming year and how the Prime Time League was doing. Meanwhile the only coverage the Capital City League got from them was when Korver showed up for a spotlight. Fox doesn't even realize there is another team in the state.

Miller was saying that if Cyclone fans do not get on board with Pollard's new plan for facility improvement by giving more money and buying more season tickets... then we could be at risk for moving down to the MAC conference. He said he hopes we do raise the money to take the program to the next level.. but if we don't we will be headed for the MAC... one hawk fan said we are a gateway conference program... Let's raise the money kick their XXX and shut them all up!

I was just joking, I understand what is going on:)

of course its a gamble, but it seems like us the cyclone fans are the only ones that are seeing things this way. I see us getting better every year and being a top 25 team. To the general public, which are probably hawkeye fans who dont really care about sports, will think this is a gamble. If they dont care about the hawks why would anyone care about the cyclones. But the article came off more negative then positive and yes is very frustrating.

The Register is not a good paper as we've said on here over and over again. Personally, I'm not that offended that a bad paper writes a bad story...it's expected.
