Anyone catch the latest Mike Tyson Mysteries on Adult Swim. The episode was Love letters. The show starts off with him watching a game between the Golden Bears and the Iowa State Cyclones and then starts trash talking the Cyclones because they are losing. He then becomes a Cyclone fan because they score a touchdown, but he admits he's a fair weather fan. He mentions ISU a couple more times during the episode, once when he's asked to present at the hip hop awards and says he'll do it as long as his Iowa State Cyclones aren't playing that day and he's sure they are going all the way this year. Then again at the end, he presents the award for best female hip hop artist and he gives it to, "His Girl" The Iowa State Cyclones.

Not sure if this deserves it's own thread, but I don't start many and thought it was pretty funny with ISU getting mentioned.

That show is kinda hit and miss with me. I've laughed pretty hard at some of the episodes, but others leave me feeling sorry for whatever's left of Mike Tyson's brain.

Chances are if ISU was mentioned that much, someone was having fun at our expense, but I'll just go with the whole "no such thing as bad press" mantra and chalk it up as a good thing.

Hope there's a way to see this online. Talk about random and obscure.

if you have diectv you can watch on adultswim.com

"I think this one is coming back. I think that's holding on Iowa State. The left tackle, senior Kenny Iwannadahtutu."

dang they're accurate!

More than likely, you are right, but it wasn't completely bad mentions. I suppose you can take anything either good or bad, this was just kind of there. Which was really strange, since it had nothing to do with the rest of the episode. I'm definitely going with the any press is good press on this one. There was no mention of how bad we are historically.

I checked it out. It can be streamed from the website, adultswim.com. Someone who knows the Iowa State Cyclones very well must have had a hand in writing that episode. How about the graphic background behind the credits at the end. Unmistakable.

Hugh Davidson, Rachel Ramras, Larry Dorf, etc. fess up, who's the Iowa State Cyclone? Love Letters-adultswim.JPG

OMG that was funny! Never watched that before. Dark, man, really reeeeeally dark humor. And best of all, Norm Macdonald voicing a sexually explicit pigeon.

Fact is if it's a dig at ISU football, it's probably not far off. They've had some just awful moments no matter how much us fans want winning.

Norm usually has the best lines. Similar to Phil Hartman in Futurama

Edit: Thanks to @3GenClone for the correction on this. I never looked it up, but I was sure that was Phil Hartman the while time. I never considered the timeline of Hartman's death, I guess.

Wikipedia snippet:

Zapp Brannigan is voiced by Billy West, though he was originally intended to be voiced by Phil Hartman.[3] Hartman insisted on auditioning for the role, and "of course, just nailed it" according to creator Matt Groening. However, due to Hartman's murder, West was given the role. On a Futurama DVD commentary, Groening reveals that Zapp's character and mannerisms were established in West's original audition for the character, and any similarity to Phil Hartman or his other well known cartoon characters (Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure) is simply coincidence. On the other hand, in an interview for the website TV Squad, Billy West states that his Zapp Brannigan is an imitation of Hartman and also "modeled after a couple of big dumb announcers I knew."[3]

The only connection I can see is that those writers were part of the Groundlings comedy troupe. I had two buddies from High School that worked for the Groundlings theater a few years ago - both of them were UNI grads though.

Anyone else notice Iowa state mentioned again in the latest episode "All About That Bass"? It's about 3 minutes in. If you listen closely during the barber shop scene you can hear them say Iowa state on the TV.
