I live in Urbandale and MetroNet is installing new fiber optic lines. I have had Mediacom for about 25 years, but tired of spending so much. Does anyone have any experience with MetroNet?
Got Metronet last year after being a long time Mediacom subscriber. Have never regretted it once. I think we've had exactly one outage in that time.

my only complaint with metronet is they add a $10 monthly technology fee but never tell you about it until you get the bill. they also add a $5 monthly billing fee. they will waive the billing fee if you sign up for autopay. but they won't waive the technology fee. the speed is way better than what i had and has been reliable.

Does the technology fee include the Mesh system?

It definitely shows the tech fee if you order online.

Looks like $50/month for 200 mbps, $60/month for 500 mbps. Those are introductory rates that go up $10/month after 12/24 months or something like that. Then add in the $10/month "technology fee" or whatever it is also.
My biggest hiccup is that is a large increase from the $45 locked in rate I’m paying Century Link but I would actually have competent internet then.

For me Mediacom was too moronic to even get the internet installed. Plus they screwed up my Dish.

Metronet has been good, switched from Mediacom in January. Good speeds, better price, customer service, and no data cap. So far so good.

I have heard mostly bad things about metronet. People agreeing to a deal then month after month go by without them hearing back from them.

I don't understand the mediacom hate. Yes there is an occasional outage, but I haven't had the bad experiences others of had.

Honestly, that's the first remotely bad report I've heard about them. I've been waiting for MiFiber to get to us for three years, to no avail. Mediacom's customer service is crap, but it's not as bad as it was. For me, it was that my wife and I kept getting kicked off our respective VPN while working at home. There are VERY frequent throttles or complete loss of service, some just for a second or two, that would kick us off. There's no fixing that issue with mediacom. A rep or tech has to be present when the outage is actually happening to have any remote shot at it getting fixed. I'm ready for some real competition.

Agreed with most of the previous comments/posts.

l switched from mediacom to Metronet last October. I have not had one issue with Metronet, and I ended up saving over $40/month in the switch! 1GB DL speed package for both companies.

1. The upload speeds are many times faster with Metronet.
2. There is no data cap.
3. I have not had any outages, much less repeated or constant outages like I did with Mediacom.
4. Metronet's customer customer service (the maybe 2 times I've calledr) has been markedly better.
5**. Did I mention the $$ difference per month? Cause yeah, that bears repeating..all the above improvements plus a large decrease in cost (even after it goes up an additional $10/month in 2 years - think it is) is tremendous.

I would greatly recommend Metronet vs Mediacom at this time. And no, I do not work for Metronet :)
I was sour with Mediacom for the vast majority of the time I had them as my service provider and was very happy to switch.

Can you sign in from a different location and stream your shows like you can with Mediacom?

I have had MetroNet for internet and cable TV in Indiana 10+ years. I have had good luck with them. They have upgraded routers a couple of times for free when I thought the speed was slowing. Both times I saw immediate improvement. Originally the cable was still using coax once it got inside the house, but they installed a new wireless system in the house for free recently. Two guys worked 5+ hours on the install. Cable prices have increased over the years, but I think that is common if you still want cable TV. Internet speed is never an issue.

Count me in for Team MetroNet. I've been with them as soon as they got to my neighborhood in Ames (September 2020?). Service is incredible. One small outage for an hour or two in my entire time with them. Mediacom has been down twice in the past week in Ames.

The technology fee is a bit annoying, but it does come with a Eero Pro. I purchased and added a Eero 6 to help out the wi-fi upstairs.

My introductory rate is about to come to an end. I'm not sure if they'll play the same games as Mediacom or not, but it's only $10/month higher which I will happily pay for consistent service and not having to deal with Mediacom's "customer service".

I do IT support and I absolutely hate it when we get support tickets for users with Mediacom that are constantly getting kicked off their VPN or horrible speeds. I am certain they throttle VPN traffic as I have seen people with 500mbps or 1gb plans get worse speed tests than I do on just a 20 mbps Centurylink line. They test their home devices and they get normal speeds but their VPN I've seen some not even get 10 mb results. Of course Mediacom denies anything is wrong with their service even after we've replaced their machine and they still get dropped like they were on the original machine. Many times they press Mediacom more and they come out and replace a modem or find an issue with hardware in their box in the neighborhood or something but even after that still sometimes get speeds that are throttled while our users on other ISP do not see that.

I'm going to switch to Metronet once it's available in my neighborhood in Grimes. Our Centurylink has been very reliable and my wife has had no issues working from home on it but Metronet will offer much better speeds for about the same we pay now.

Lost Mediacom internet and cable tv Wednesday. Technician scheduled for Tuesday. Using personal phone for hot spot and eating up data for work at home. Not happy.
