They are supposed to be adding quite a bit more also. If they can some how get the right ones then I could care less if they have 85 channels in HD if 56 of them are crap. If they could somehow get the 25 I watch then I will be happy. I pay $79 / month for Video on Demand, DVR HD Receiver, Sports Pack, HBO and Showtime.
I really think that eventually NFL and the Big11 network will be on the sportspack sooner than later, plus I hate the Big11 and if I want to watch a NFL game I will go to my neighbor's or a Pub. One thing I like about Mediacom is that I have a bunch of other TV's in the House that I don't need a box for. (although that needs to probably stop if they want more bandwidth for HD). I also like connections 22.
I look for them to really get agressive on their Phone service also. Like maybe drop the prices a ton. Just what I heard.

Yes, but the 25 you watch might not be the 25 that other people want to watch. I could care less about HD locals for the most part. A blurry picture of poop is no more compelling than a sharp picture of poop. Most people think they are essential.

Also, Mediacom doesn't have NFL network? Seriously?

I agree only need about 15HD channels really...

Can you clarify for me your exact cable package? Currently I have channels 1-78 HBO, Starz and the HD channels + DVR/HD reciever and internet. And pay no where near 80 bucks a month.

I like the Mojo channel in the HD channels

I bet if you took a poll of all the local channels people watch locals would be insane. All the good Main Football games are on FOX and CBS also. All the good shows like the office are on the main Local channels. Most of ISU's games are on ABC
Most people would be happy if they got the following channels in my opinion. Of course this is my opinion only.

Discovery
ABC
FOX
NBC
CBS
CNN
TBS
USA
TNT
CN
ABC FAM
MTV
ESPN CL
ESPN
ESPN 2
ESPNU
DISNEY
NICK
FOX SPORTS
FOX NEWS
HIST
VH1
TLC
HGTV
Versus
CSTV
PREMIUM CHANNELS

(I) would be really happy with this. I don't really need the NFL network although I still think it will get to cable sooner or later.

While they're at it, they might as well upgrade their cameras or something because whenever sports are played on the mediacom channel, it looks like they are recording them with a handheld camera from 1980.

Haha, that is so true!! It bugs the **** out of me

I have a mediamax package that they don't offer anymore I believe. I think I am getting a pretty good deal in my opinion. My company gives the $50 bones for Internet each month and that leaves me with $79. I don't have the HD package though although I get the premiums, espn's and locals etc...

Yeah I know it's on the box, but I read in the register around the new year that Mediacom was raising their basic cable package a few dollars because it was going to include ESPNHD and a couple other HD channels for if you have an HDTV. But I can't get it on basic cable in Ames.

oh I don't disagree that I'm statistically in the minority. On that list of yours, I don't watch ABC FAM, MTV, ESPN CL, DISNEY, NICK, VH1, TLC, or much of TBS, TNT, and CNN.
I want all the history channels (I think there are 3?), all the discovery channels (I think there are 4?), A&E, a handful of others in that same area (Smithsonian etc), comedy central, BBC America, Showtime, HBO etc. etc..
Heck there are a lot of channels I watch just one or two shows on.
The nice thing about DirecTV is that pretty much all the channels you have on that list are in HD already, as are pretty much all the channels on my list. If you JUST subscribed to HD channels on DirecTV, and got no other channels, directv would STILL have a lineup that is probably equal to or better than cable (assuming you can get OTA-HD capability ala the HR20 and HR10-250 until they roll out HD locals via satellite in your area).

I suppose this might turn into a debate on bundling at some point. That's always fun
