I thought that you guys may be interested in knowing where Fizer is playing now. He's playing for Murcia in the ACB Spanish League, where he's the leading scorer (18.3 ppg) and the 13th-best rebounder (6.3). Its good seeing him do well.

Not to be negative b/c I love Fizer, as he is one of my favorite Cyclones of all time. But when you are the 3rd overall pick in the NBA draft and you are playing Spanish ball so many years later, I don't know if we can consider him to be doing well. Once again I am glad he is making the most out of his oppurtunity but it has to be hard on him to play out their when he played in the NBA for a while

True, I guess I meant doing better and actually playing. Hopefully he can get back to the NBA in the coming years.

Actually Fizer was the #4 overall pick in the draft but point still well-noted.

Trivia time: who was the #3 overall pick in that draft? I can actually name the top 5 from that draft ironically because I'm a Bulls fan and remember all the fuss that was created when the Bulls took Fizer.

I'm a huge Fizer fan also. I keep telling myself that he got cheated when he was drafted. He never had much of a chance when the Bulls had Elton Brand. I was hoping he'd slip to #5 and go to the Magic because he would have started right away or the Clippers picked him up at 3. I still think he would have had a great career. This is one of the few times Tim Floyd has really made me mad as a coach. It is good to see he's doing well though. I'm very happy for Fizer and hope he makes it back to the NBA in an important role someday.

Ah yes! I forgot about Darius Miles. Thanks for the reminder. I don't know why I thought he was the 3rd pick. Thats not the best looking top 5 of all time that is for sure. Everybody but Fizer contributes to an NBA team right now.

I would have to think his injury is the biggest reason for that. He was in the running for the 6th man award when he went down with that injury an he hasn't been the same since

that's not a great top 5 ... K-mart is pretty good, but Miles & Swift have never lived up to the hype, always next year with them.

Miller is good enough to start for some teams, but not all of em.

How do you go from NBDL MVP to Spanish league? Am I wrong in assuming that the NBDL is the next level down from the NBA. I know you can make good money overseas and it is competitive but I thought for sure he'd get picked up this season, especially since he was on some late season rosters last season.

Marcus has the same problem now that he did then. He is not tall enough to play the 4, and too limited (ball handling, defense) to play the 3. And he never passed the ball well enough for NBA teams, the ball would go into him, and he wouldn't pass it out. He was playing well for Bill Cartwright, but the knee injury finished him.

That being said, he was a tremendous college player, and he made some money so that is good.

Probably because you earn less than 30,000 playing in the NBDL and you can make a lot more than that in Europe, especially playing in Spain. That's probably the best Euroleague for talent being scouted for the NBA.

Basically, the ACB league is good for Americans that just can't make it in the NBA and want to earn enough money to be alright when they retire.

I still love his dunk in Hilton on Chris Mihm. I had that as my background image on my laptop for the longest time...

I like Marcus, but my attitude towards him is jaded somewhat because of the run Tinsley and company had after Fizer left early. Had he come back to play with Jamaal his senior year, the Clones would have been a legit contender for the National Title. Then Larry drank us into the toilet. So...I like Marcus, but I don't love him as much as say Hoiberg, Hornacek or Grayer. That said, I wish Marcus all the best.

I still think we got cheated out of a W against MSU :angry6wn: (I think Mateen Cleaves is bumping around the development league if you need him).

The only player in that entire draft that has played like a top five pick is Michael Redd, and he was taken 43rd.

Hornacek, once called the "Patron Saint of Walk-Ons" by Sports Illustrated, is my favorite Cyclone. I can't remember how many times he did something (a shot, a pass, a steal) that bailed us out of a tight situation...

#6 and 7 not much to brag about either. DeMarr Johnson and Jamal Crawford.

Very well put...Fizer was an animal in college, but pro ball is a completely different beast. He was stuck between the 3-4 position. He has the typical build of the 4 spot, minus 3 inches, so it was always an area of concern. However, I thought he'd still be an impact player in the big leagues, maybe a 6th man coming in to rile up the defense and get some big offensive boards and put backs.....Good to see he's playing somewhere though......

What's plagued Marcus more than injuries in the NBA is a bad reputation. He and Cartwright butted heads, he came across his teammates as a prima donna, and he had that whole gun incident.

He's gained a lot of weight that he never used to have (it's not muscle). He will most likely never play in the NBA again.

But he's still the greatest player in the history of ISU basketball, and that's enough for me :yes4lo:

24/7 Cy is right. Fizer screwed us out of a National Title. The 'Clones would have been legit contenders if he would have returned his senior year, especially with JT running the poin. Instead, we get run by Baylor in the Big 12 Tourney and then bounced in the first round of the NCAA Tourney by Hampton.

Michael Redd is clearly the star of that draft class. Mike Miller is second, and he's good enough to start for any team in the NBA. Kenyon Martin's knee and leg injuries have made him an overpaid benchwarmer.
