WRESTLERS IN CUBA
Two of our wrestlers competed in a UWW freestyle tournament last month in Cuba called the Granma y Cerro Pelado. Both David Carr and Kyven Gadson came away with Bronze medals.
On his way to 3rd place, David won a match against the wrestler who placed third in the Senior World Championships in 2018.
Kyven lost only on criteria to a 3-time world medalist from Cuba.
The C-RTC’s Nate Carr traveled with David and Kyven as their coach. “What was special and unusual was that our two guys got to practice with the Cubans,” said Nate. “You don’t often get to practice with your competitors. So that was fun because the Cubans are some of the best wrestlers in the world.”
In late April, we will take many of our wrestlers to compete in the UWW Junior National and Senior National freestyle competitions in Las Vegas.
C-RTC EXPANSION
The C-RTC is taking another big step in its mission to bring in more post-graduate wrestlers and win world championship and Olympic medals. This spring, we will acquire a 4-plex Townhouse unit in Ames. With a total of 14 rooms, this allows us to begin housing our post-graduate athletes as early as April.
We have been working on this project with HCS Builders (affiliated with Hunziker Associates), which has given us immediate access to the 4-plex. As part of our agreement with HCS, the C-RTC must rebuild a similar 4-plex Townhouse complex for HCS to sell.
Construction on the new 4-plex will start this spring.
This is where OUR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS come in. We are now looking for donations of building products, services, and labor on this project -- as well as outright cash or check donations that we can put towards paying for parts of this project.
If you make a sizeable donation for this project we will put your name and/or the name of your business on a plaque at the front entrance to each unit. For years, athletes will be able to see who they can thank for building the Cyclone Regional Training Center House in 2019.
For more info contact Ben Durbin at: [email protected].
Stay tuned for pictures & video of the house.
SOCIAL SEASON IS COMING
Our social season is right around the corner. We have several planned in the Central and Northern parts of the state starting the end of May. We’ll let you know the schedule in our next newsletter. If YOU would like to help organize a social in your area – please email Robin at: [email protected]. Our socials are a fun opportunity to mingle and talk wrestling with our coaching staff, followed by a great dinner and live auction. All the proceeds go to the C-RTC.
DONATE ONLINE
Finally, in case you haven’t donated yet in 2019 -- I want to direct you to our website. This is a great time to get involved and make a one-time or recurring donation -- it will help us build the C-RTC House. Go here: https://www.cyclonertc.org/
Thanks in advance for your help!
