Get used to players testing the waters like this. No reason to freak out. If he's good enough to make it in the NBA, then good luck to him.
Until the NBA bans it. I saw a tweet the other day that there's over 120 players entering the draft so far. Only 60 get drafted...

probably no downside for him. Potentially big downside for the schools that are sitting around waiting for 3 months. It's kind of like knowing your coach is leaving for the NBA but he kills time for 3 months

Malou was always a wildcard. This changes little.

again, it's great for them and bad for the school. so what does Iowa state do when waiting on this decision? They probably don't dump someone from the current team to try and get s transfer, but if Malou doesn't come here, they'll need a transfer. But the transfers will be gone.

Its an interesting situation that is trouble for coaches.

He's gotten the RAW end of some shady people and I honestly hope whatever happens to him, he finds success. Obviously want it at ISU, but the kid deserves a shot.

does the NBA give a shot though? It's no skin off their back.

Unless he happens to get invited to the combine, which I highly doubt he does, I really don't see the point of this for Malou. Could be wrong though.

Everyone should relax. This is unexpected but, he was on the NBA radar with rumors Malou could go pro instead of college last year. Not to mention he hasn't been fully cleared by the NCAA yet. Putting his name in now will give him feedback on what he needs to work on and if there is a problem academically it allows him more time to still turn pro instead of being stuck in limbo. He's keeping his options open, probably the smart move. All that said, I fully expect him playing in Ames next year.

Chris tweeted about how this is just a backup option in case his academics fall through. If he doesn't declare he wouldn't be able to sign with a D-League team if his academics aren't where they need to be. Sounds like he still wants to go to ISU

Doh this day is going down hill and continuing the trend from Friday. Oh well, I don't see him getting in the combine but we will see.

Just spoke with Iowa State coach Steve Prohm. Says that Malou entered as a backup in case things don't go his way with the NCAA. #Cyclones

Chris tweeted something similar. So basically nothing changes for ISU. It's all wheteher or not the academics work out which is what it has always been

This is exactly the sort of reasonable, thoughtful and logical argument that will prevent the posting of the Beaker gif. I'm not sure that I'm happy about this.

imo, if he sticks around a year, his value will increase.... My worry is grades and qualifying are the issue here....

We're trying to throw gas on the fire, not water. If you're not panicking you're in the wrong thread. :jimlad:

Well, now I'm panicking because his academics are so bad he thinks he needs a backup plan.
