I currently live in Loveland. It is OK if you like old people and no night life. I am going to move back to Fort Collins in the next year. I love the FC area. Great people, great place.

Yup. When we were looking at buying, we looked into Loveland a bit because it's cheaper. So, so, so glad we didn't do that. Even if we had kids, FoCo is still the place to be.

My wife just took a new job in Louisville, darn near to Boulder. There has been no discussion of moving.

Louisville is pretty darn nice. Most of my co-workers live very close to there. See you Saturday.

If you want to live close to downtown, you're looking at least $1k for a 1 BR. Rent gets cheaper the further away from downtown you get...to a point. Anytime you're close to a large working area (downtown, DTC/Meridian/Inverness, etc) rent goes back up. It's the spaces in between that have the better rent.

Denver has good public transportation (RTD), including a few light rail lines. The major RTD lines (bus and light rail) all service the downtown area if you end up working there.

What about within Denver proper? What areas are more affordable? Any total ghettos or crazy-expensive areas I should eliminate right off the bat?

I found this website to help me get an idea of how the metro is laid out. Click on Denver County, and it roughly shows the neighborhoods.

EDIT: Also, this map.

I live in Cap Hill/Cheesman Park and pay 1400 for a 1200sq ft condo. There are plenty of one bedrooms in the are in the 800-1000 buck range. You can even rent a room or something along those lines in the 500 buck range around here.
If you dislike gay people, don't live here though, wife and I are the minority.

Generally speaking, stay south of Colfax and south of downtown. Highland and West Highland are fine. East of S Platte (river that runs N to downtown) is also good. There are a lot of apartments along Cherry Creek (CC is the "river" that runs NW towards downtown). The Capitol Hill area might be a good place to start your search.

Areas you probably can't afford: Wash Park, Cherry Creek (area near CC Mall), Country Club, City Park

Right on! My wife and I are helping sponsor it and are bringing all the food. Look for the red Explorer with the ISU flag, I'm sure we will be impossible to miss...

I didn't sign up for the event but my colorado pass is valid for A-bay. I might make the trip up to hang with some clones. I have not decided one way or the other yet.

Hope you come out, we're expecting a big crowd and a lot of fun.
