List of potential replacements should Fred Hoiberg leave

I was fine with the idea of Otz initially and now I've gone back and forth so many times I lost count. Would love to grab an experienced HC to go with Otz at least for a few years but if it's TJ right away, I'm not going to be upset about it.

I've been the same way. I've assumed for a long time now that TJ would be the guy to replace Fred if/when he ended up leaving...I just assumed it would be more like five years from now after TJ had had some time as a mid-major HC.

Handing the keys to a top ten team (and the looming rebuild of 2016 and beyond) to a guy with no head coaching experience is scary. I don't like it. But he's far from the worst option that has been mentioned, and obviously Fred and Jamie have faith in TJ and he seems to be a good coach and recruiter. And it's not my job on the line if it doesn't work out...

I don't know how to feel.

There was talk that TJ might come back and Niang's mom said something like "Trust me, you don't want him back. None of us do." Or something very similar to that.

You added the "None of us do." She did say the rest of it on the message boards (and then later deleted it); however, I think it may have something to do with TJ coming back meaning that Fred either wouldn't be able to coach this year for medical reasons or that it was a sign that Fred would be leaving.

That wasn't it. It said, if Otz comes back, "that's not good"...meaning if Otz is back, Fred gone. Which has played out almost perfectly.

If Otz coaching means we get Kobe King and Greek Freak 2.0 in 2016, I'm all for it.

A classic Jamie Pollard hire. Continues to receive poor marks in the coaching hire category.

Agree, but only if we find out Hornacek was not considered for the job. Otherwise, TJ was the easy hire for him.

She never said "none of us do" she just said the first sentence.

meaning Fred is leaving in the near future...because TJ will be the next coach...

I like TJ but I don't like the idea of a new head coach taking over for The Mayor and to coach a top ten team no less.

I am fine if Otz gets the job, but I would like to see Pollard reach out to Hornacek first. He is definitely worth looking into if he is interested in the job.

Here's the deal. Iowa State already knows Fred is going to go to the Bulls, they have for months. TJ coming back was no accident. Pollard will hire TJ and I'm guessing he's going to have a sweet coaching staff.

Just a hunch.

Lord have mercy

The merit of this hire can be properly judged several years from now. To write Otz off at this point is a little juvenile of you.

I think from Hornacek's comments yesterday it's obvious that JP or the search firm has reached out. With all of the tweets and reports from national writers today in regards to TJ I would say that Hornacek is a no go.
