As a recent graduate of LCHS I can say it was a pretty comfortable school district for me. We were great at wrestling, great at baseball (think they had a down year this last year though), and decent at football. The drop to 3A and a new coach seems to have helped the football program. I was never very good at basketball, but they seemed to be getting better while I was there. The performing arts programs (except maybe band) were (still are?) head and shoulders better than any other Southwest Iowa schools. I believe they have gotten new choir directors since I was there, though. I haven't been back to CB in about a year but if you have any other questions, feel free to send a PM.

If you arent exactly for sure you want to teach/coach at L.C, i would, if there is a job opporunity, give harlan a try, its a very nice community, i lived there for 2 years, and im not exaggerrating when i say they go to state about every year in at least one sport, the state championships are abundant and the academics are exceptional as well, we just had the Gatorade iowa high school football player of the year last year in Dan Hoch and have had many exceptional athletes, mostly at least 2 sport athletes too. That would be my recommendation for a town around a 50 minute radious of the Bluffs and Omaha, plus its 10 minutes away from the interstate and easy access to the bluffs and omaha. Plus we usually beat L.C...lol

I just graduated from Lewis Central High School last spring.

Very good area to live, i'd say west-end CB not the best.

Ummmmm.... Lewis Central though if i had to rate my HS experience 1-10, id say about a 4.

Veeerrrrryyyyy political school, many kids on our NHS had MIP's and people like me who didnt drink in HS got the shaft because there was "suspicsion" (sp?) that i did.

Sports are pretty mucha joke for the most part. Most kids there are all about "I" never thought i'd witness people on the same team as you be so hateful. thats why our wrestling team is good.

Fine Arts at LC are top notch! The drama program is stellar, and our chiors are year in- and year out some of the best. The band is ever growing and nothing but success is in thier future.

If you want any other info on LC I'd be happy to talk to you. just shoot me a private message.

BTW for any posters who are going to say that maybe i didnt like HS cuz i was a loser, i would disagree with.... i just didnt fit in with the normality of Douchebaggery you had to have to fit in correctly. my little brother transferred this year to Treynor Community HS and he likes it about 100% more. i wish i would have done the same but w/e.

My final advice to ISUguy would be.... look into Treynor Comm schools. very nice people and smaller school enviroment. i dont know thier teacher situation, but Treynor beats the crap out of LC in about every catagory. My brother was about a whole semester behind in math when he got to treynor... LC jsut aint what it used to be

as far as CB goes.... if you get out far enough from downtown, there are some really nice housing developments. but like i said since i am from LC id say taht most of our teachers lived in Omaha anyway so jea... not a long commute.

I think our principle actaully drives like 30 min everyday though... he crazy.

also one thing i forgot to mention in last post... LC's Athletic Director is FANTASTIC! and also a huge ISU fan himself... if you wanna go for sports i would definitley get in touch with him.

You are about to embark on one of the greatest experiences of your life. Here is how it begins - 1. Move to Mineola. 2. Get yourself a bike. 3. Every Thursday Night ride the bike trail. 4. Imbibe pitchers of Margaritas and enjoy taco baskets. 5. Sleep on picnic table at Margaritaville.
thursdaynightride : Thursday Night Taco Ride Information
PS - Block all Friday mornings off your schedule for recovery time. Though if the trailhead is right by LC so maybe you could sleep in your car and be ready for class in the morning (but your a teacher, you have summers off!).

I am currently a Jumior at LC. LC is without a dubt the best school in Council Bluffs. Last year are basketball team was 21-3. This year our football team was 8-2. We have a great wrestling and baseball tradition. Council Bluffs is a great place to live. There are some slummy parts of town like everywhere. Are high schoool is fairly new. It was built 7 or 8 years ago. The school isn't to big or to small, just like Council Bluffs. Our enrollment is right around 1000. From what i have heard, the elementary classes have been increasing rapidly in size. We definatly have the highest academic standards in Council Bluffs. As far as the CB area goes, it's a great place to raise a family.
If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Interesting, if thats the case I would assume that they would be moving to 4A for football soon. I know Fort Dodges enrollment isn't much higher at 1200 and its slowly shrinking.

They are right around the cutoff lines in every sport... One of the smallest 4A schools and one of the biggest 3A

There are no coaching vacancies in Harlan...ever! What makes Harlan good at sports is that they have a replacement in mind for every HC job and as for assistants, those are hard to come by too. You are right in the fact though that Harlan football probably has the richest tradition in 3A.

If you are looking for stuff to do though, stick with CB! Harlan is BORING!!!!!

I'm from the good ole town of C-Bang and I would recommend LC as a place of employment. It is not affiliated with the CB school district, which is a plus. CB has grown exponentially over the past year or so thanks to the casinos, and more growth should be expected. I know for a fact that a lot of Iowan money was crossing the river due to the lack of quality shopping in CB, but with all the new businesses coming to town, those dollars will be staying in CB.

As for housing, I would suggest East-end or other nearby towns like Glenwood or Treynor.

I would stay in Iowa if thats where you are now. I like Omaha and like in Papillion but it isnt going to be worth your drive, especially because the places in Neb youd likely want to be are west a ways. The biggest problem we had with the Bluffs when we moved over here was that housing was more expensive there compared with Omaha. You may make it up on the taxes, who knows. I know that I could have kept my ISU license plates if I had stayed in the Bluffs! Oh well. I would expect you to find more in east CB than in west too. I lived in the NW corner when I first started working here and it was fine for a while but pretty small and grubby places abound.

All you need to know if Council Bluffs is on the correct side of the river, Omaha is not. If that's not enough (it should be) C.B. has the same initials as Craig Brackins. Added bonus.

Grew up in Irwin (graduated from I-K-M) and worked awile in Harlan and my entire family now lives in Harlan or Omaha, so Harlan is where I go to see the family now.

He is entitled to his opinion. Unsure why the personal attack was necessary, but on that topic I will commend him for his ability to structure sentences into an understandable thought. At least someone from LC learned to write. :)

I agree with most of what you said. TJ baseball is terrible right now and they were good back when Lee Toole was there coach, he is currently the coach at LC. As far as education goes, LC has been expanding it's programs like crazy. Every trimester their are 4 or 5 new courses to choose from. You can get a good education at St Albert's and AL, but TJ is way behind. LC has classes that get students ready for college, like several different engineering courses and alot of business classes. St Albert's does make state in football because they are 1A. The kids who go there grow up in the same environment as the rest of us in CB. We get to play good competition in every sport because Omaha is so close. When i was younger my teams were always about half LC half St Albert's kids.

I don't want to get too far off base, but T.J. had a great baseball tradition well before Toole came around. Talk to people who played for Toole (I'm one of them) and you will get a story that doesn't fit his reputation as painted by the Nonpareil (and Toole himself).

Anyway, I think C.B. is a fine city and Lewis Central is a good school.

I understand where your coming from. I play for him right now and he is a good coach, but nothing special. There are alot of kids who have there disagreements with him, and some who stopped playing because of personal disagreements.
