You need 9 votes to change the by-laws.

That's interesting. I didn't realize that.

They would need all 6 that are going to the Pac 10, and then Nebraska and Mizzou to vote yes, but that would give them only 8 votes, correct?

That's interesting. So basically if KSU, KU, Baylor and ISU are out in the cold, as rumored, then we're in for a big pay day, even if it is very temporary.

So where was OU recruiting from prior to the Big 12?
Primarily from Oklahoma, from what I am told, and some from Texas. Now, it's completely the other way...OU has 57 kids for Texas and 29 from Oklahoma.

I think that they are established enough that they could sell the kids on "we're a 4 hour drive"/ almost in TX

To which the kids would respond, "Are people in Texas going to hear about me playing at OU"?

I believe you're right. Whomever sticks around (ISU, KSU, KU, BU and maybe MU and kNU) should be entitled to a small windfall.

To which OU will say, "Yes, when we're mowing down the conference and going to a BCS bowl every single year.

So say we are in line for the big pay out if the other schools leave. I assume we will have to stay with whatever's left of the Big 12? would that be worth it?

OU has ALWAYS recruited Texas well. I remember reading articles on that subject well before the B12 merger.

As long as OU plays UT every year, they are close enough it doesn't really matter if they play other Texas schools, IMO

If you can get the "cream of the crop" of the MWC and/or WAC and/or Big East and/or C-USA to come into the conference it would be worth it. That beats us going to the MWC IMO.

Maybe the Big XII should counter offer 5 schools from the Pac 10 and see who wins out? Offer USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, and Cal. I say 5 because after what Mizzou has been doing we should tell them to take a hike and give Nebraska a 1 time offer to stay. If they don't then we go back and snag 1 of the remaining Pac 10 teams.

Switzer, Gibbs, and Blake all recruited tons of Texas kids. There was big heat on the coaches who followed Darrell Royal concerning why OU was luring the Texas studs away...

Those guys weren't even close to recruting TX the way Stoops does now. Maybe they would snag some good players, but not in the sheer numbers that Stoops does.

From the 1996 OU roster
1996 Oklahoma Sooners Football Roster

56 from OK, 35 from TX.

From the current OU roster
SoonerSports.com - Official Site of the Oklahoma Sooners

57 from TX, 29 from OK.

(hopefully I counted pretty close).

So who would let Texas have more revenue to stay? Funny how fast things can flip on you.

If OU is going to say "F YOU", to UT, like LutherClone suggests, why would they play them every year in a non-conference FB game?

I postsed roster stats above. OU is recruiting Texas much heavier now than they did in the past.

I'm not arguing that they will say that. In fact, I can't see any way that would be helpful to their situation.

I think OU will smartly go wherever UT goes (if they have a choice). UT is their main rival, and opposite is true for UT. Also, OU makes their living recruiting Texas and being very close to Dallas.

I was just arguing the minor point about recruiting.

this...won't...work.

It could if Beebe got off of his *** and started selling a potential network with the addition of 5 Pac 10 schools. Kick Mizzou out, try to keep Nebraska.....

It could work and it could be made to work but instead Beebe is going to sit on his *** and let the conference implode. Right now the Big XII should be in desperation mode to do whatever it can to save itself from extermination rather then just sitting around and waiting to see who picks us apart first.... the Pac 10 or the Big 10.

Wouldn't it feel great to turn the tables on the Pac 10 and Big 10 at this point? What do we have to lose here since the end seems near anyway?
