Let the hype begin

We all expected a tournament team this year, who wouldn't with the talent we have and Hoiberg as our coach. Yesterdays win against Michigan, along with Iowa State being nationally ranked is going to build up some hype early on. What do you take of it? I think the biggest thing for me this year is that this team has seemed to gel early on, while past years team usually dont get it together until conference play. I saw it the first 3 games of the season, the roles seemed more defined then in years past and adding Ejim to the lineup is only going to help. He is going to be a 1st team all Big 12 pick for sure. That is huge.

BYU will tell us a whole lot more about our team then the Michigan game did in my honest opinion though. This year should be fun, but I'm also trying to not get too drunk off Kool-aid. With that said, if we do beat BYU on Wednesday and not have any slip ups until the Iowa game I honestly think we could be sneaking up into top 15-18 range for that game. Could be a very fun year for Iowa State basketball. The biggest thing I want this year is to get a high seed, that would be great and well deserved! Go State!

They do seem to be more cohesive this year than other Fred team's have been in the non-conference. The really exciting thing is there is still room for improvement. Thomas will find a more consistent shooting stroke eventually. Niang has somewhat underperformed, but he is too talented and smart not to figure it out. Morris didn't have a great game, but he will improve. And this is after a WIN over a top 10 team.

Do you mean NIT when you say tournament? There were several downers on here that had us losing to Michigan, BYU, and Iowa and only making the NIT.

Not that it happened here, so on a tangent, I just want to say I hate when fans tell other fans not to get too excited. Screw that. Get as excited as you want. This is a talented team with a hell of a coach that knows what he's doing. It's not our job to not get big headed or look over teams to bigger games, that solely lies on coaching staff and players. I see no reason why Cyclone Nation shouldn't get excited and let the hype machine begin.

There should be hype, Fred has got this team where he thinks we should be. We are a top 15 team and we will earn a top 5 seed in the tourney, and I think that might be conservative. Give me more Hoi-aid!

How? The Michigan game showed us that we have a team that can hang with and BEAT the big boys. BYU is a fringe team that can put up some points. Michigan >> BYU. That said, we could could very easily lose to them.

I didn't say don't get excited, I literally just called us a tournament team 3 games into the season, you think I'm not excited? I was trying to say that were going to experience some hype with this team really early this season that we haven't seen in a long time. Were being propelled into the national spotlight whereas usually the hype was built up around our fan base only.

Today I got the mail and my Sports Illustrated came in. On the cover is Glenn Robinson III guarding Gary Harris saying how this could be the year for a Michigan vs Michigan State Final Four game.

I smiled

I think it is just great to get a huge Sunday Selection win under our belt this early. Last year's team was talented, but we were missing a marquee win that kept us on the bubble for far too long.

A road win over BYU would be huge, and holding court against Iowa would be another resume builder. Hopefully we will be entering conference play just wondering about maximizing seeding and not sweating the bubble.

I'd agree with that, but I also hate it when fans get too excited and then melt down when the team doesn't perform to their expectations.

BYU game could bring everybody back to earth in a hurry. They appear to be a pretty solid team and it's on the road. It'll be a good early test, for sure.

BYU is going to be really tough. In the last 5 years, BYU has gone 60-8 at home. I think 2 or 3 of those losses are to Gonzaga. They do not slip up at home often. This will be a very hostile environment. I hope we can win, but gotta be just a tad realistic. If we can win this game though, we could have a very good chance to have a seed in the tourney higher than 9!

I didn't say you were. I just knew it would be a matter of time before someone accused someone else about looking ahead to Kansas, or saying something to effect of, we've got to focus on the game we're playing next, or the biggest game is the next one on the schedule.

While that's important for coaches or players, I hate when people think fans have to think the same way.

Agree...love the big win and ranking, but we all need to be prepared. Like many have said, good to see a team this early get such a big win as many years the "gel" period for CFH's teams were longer. BUT, the nice thing is we know CFH can coach and get the most out of his team, so we really can win ANY game this year. Just hope if we have "off" nights (some might say yesterday we were off in parts of our game) it isn't on KU or Okie State game days.

Here nor there
I did not expect the tournament this year, especially after losing Bubu and Amardi, and I am still not completely convinced ...but I also did not see them beating Michigan so hopefully I continue to be proven wrong.
